Said goodbye to Jack D tonight...

The renters in a property I've managed for several years have left to go back home.
Part of the protocol is to do a "walk thru" to make sure everything is clean and nothing
is broken...almost perfect.  While doing the walk thru I saw a half a pint of Jack D on
the counter and funny how that becomes a fixation while everything else becomes
just stuff.  I went back into the property this evening to check some repairs I have to
do and make sure the refer was off and unplugged and do a little deeper search for
the part that kept it from being perfect and Jack was sitting on the counter quietly.

I think about the story I was told years ago about 3 alcoholics looking at a left over
glass of booze and one is saying it's half full and the other half empty and the
third saying "If you guys ain't gonna drink that...do you mind?".  I was alone with it
and pulled the cap and blessed the garbage disposal with it while the fumes made
me revisit past experiences and outcomes.  I made sure to rinse it out well and
recapped it before deciding the bottle wasn't a collectible and tossed it.  I finished
my rounds, made a list of what I needed to do ...sighed and came home...sober to
a home I once didn't have and a wife who remains after 16 years and other assorted
items mostly found in a "normal" existence.  The only two people present during
this little piece of time was me and a power greater than me.   Soooo powerful that
which has taken place in order for me to bring such a simple story to this board.

I'm gonna go watch TV with my spouse and then read some literature to help keep
the compulsion supressed and rethank my God before I hit the sack.  I'll check in
later.

Mahalo for all your support.   (((hugs))) smile

Hey Jerry! Beautiful share ,nice way to start my day as I go to the mall to start really 'practicing spiritual principles" as I began shopping for my wife.I am early this year it i usually day or so before, that procrastination thing.I am so grateful to be able to 'do shopping' as I reflect back to the 'days of the war"and would actually not only miss shopping, but miss the holiday!!!Whew I can feel my stomach turn as the 'bottle of Jack' was opened',that smell still flips my guts, a blessing!!Have a blessed and productive day.....smile

Ahhh .. I can taste the taste of it right now. I remember it well, the bitter burn of the whiskey on my lips.

I cant lie. I use to love the way that stuff made me feel.
But something happened and the end result was not good. Even tho it got me right here where Im at today , I pray I never forget that feeling.

Thanks for sharing your experience Jerry.
