I go to my first AA meeting in 3 hours I am really nervous and scared but I am going. There may be people there I know I have lived in this town off and on for since I was a Teenager. I don't really know what to say or do maybe I will just observe I read what everyone posted about 1st meetings but I am still really nervous. But I am off work tomorrow and normally I would of had a 6 pack by now.

Remember, everyone there has the same problem as you and they all need each other for help.  My first meeting was amazing and the best thing I ever did for myself.  You really are doing the right thing.  I am excited for you.  Don't be scared....

Yea I did Thanks so much jj It mad a lot of sense almost as if it were describing exactly how I feel. Only an hour and a half to I go I have been pacing the floor.

Many of us show up early, for the meeting before the meeting, what I do is leave early, stop by Starbucks or something, get a hot drink, and then arrive at the meeting early, I kind of wander my way so I don't end up climbing the walls when I am waiting for something important, but especially when I had moved and was attending all new meetings after a few decades of knowing everyone, I was in a position of not knowing anyone, so that's what I did

leave early
stop at a starbucks
bring a book
leave starbucks with still plenty of time to arrive early

the fact of "being in motion" was more helpful then I could say, also frequently I would recognize people from the starbucks at the meeting if it was nearby, and then we had an opening for a conversation

Hope it was a good experience for you. I went to 3 meetings today, had butterflies in my stomach for every one of them. So good.
