There will always be a difference of opinion as long as people have different interests, different prejudices and different mental capacities.
To expect people to disagree with you is only sensible and reasonable. If everybody agreed with you, everybody would be as smart as you and you wouldn't like that for a minute. The chances are you are both wrong anyhow, or you would not be required to defend your opinions. The right can defend itself without your help.
Thank you Helen. I like this. Prior to AA it was an unconscious motive of mine to have people agree with me. Agreeing with me meant I had their validation and approval. I felt good when this happened. Letting people control my life. Not good. When they didn't agree with me I felt less than, disapproved of and insecure. Many times I would agree with them and fold on my opinion because of this fear.
Today, I realize it's o.k. and healthy to have differring opinons and people can agree to disagree. I can pause and keep quiet if I disagree with someone and not have to win the discussion or argument. My motive today is to live an honest life with solid principles and do God's will for me. Not everyone has to agree with my thoughts or opinions and it's really none of my business what they think or feel. I rely on God, AA and my Sponsor for guidance. I continue to learn and grow and my opinions gradual change as I learn more about myself and life.
