Hi. I'm a newcomer to AA. I've been sober 5 days now. I went to my first real AA meeting last Tuesday. I say "real" because over the years I have attended AA 3 different meetings in three different states, but last Tuesday was the first time I really knew that I was an alcoholic. I've been in denial for too many years.

I purchased the Big Book at the meeting and have been simply amazed at how well it describes what my life has been like. I belong here but that sometimes scares me. Sometimes I get mad that I can't drink like a normal person.

I'll monitor this forum regularly and appreciate any advice especially you old-timers can offer.

Welcome Scott

I'm not an oldtimer by any means, only in my first 30 days - again! Just wanted to say welcom and there are some awesome people here with many years of wisdom and a lot of love and support to give.

Keep coming. Go to as many f2f AA's as you can, get yourself a sponsor, read the Big Book. It's amazing how things will turn themselves around when you work it.

Love to you

Doll

Thanks Doll. Didn't mean to exclude those of us non-oldtimers from giving some advice. You words are very reassuring. I'm going to my second f2f tomorrow. I'm looking for things to get better.

Love to you too

Hi Scott,

Welcome. This is a great site for more experience strength and hope, from all over the world. We love newcomers, just as the f2f meetings do, you keep it fresh for the rest of us. I am not an oldtimer, I've been sober for a little over 4 years, one day at a time, but I find that most of my questions can be answered in the big book. I would suggest you read Chapter 3 of the big book to answer your frustration about being able to drink like a normal person. Read it as many times as you need to, and keep going to meetings and asking questions. And get a sponsor as soon as you can, even a temporary one, so you have someone you can call if you need to. Keep coming back...we love you.

Love, cheri

Thanks to everybody for all the postings and the kind sentiments. I read Chapter 3 of the Big Book and it does talk to me. I didn't drink yesterday and I won't drink today. God bless this site and all of you. I'll keep posting, responding, and monitoring.

Scott
