Just spoken by video call to my buddy in Australia

My sober buddy, Gaz, got married last year and went to Cairns for his honeymoon. They were there 6 weeks. While there his bride was offered a job and Gaz and she went back over there in April so that she could take up the job and he could seek a work permit. Just had a video call by skype with him - was great to see him.

Been a funny sort of day - I went to weight watchers - still plateaud at 210lbs - and found I won prizes at last week's charity raffle - 4 miniatures of whisky, half bottle of wine, bottle of perfume, botttle of foot lotion and a pack of 4 scented candles. So that's the Christmas Shopping done! Whisky and Wine for Mum, Perfume for wife, foot lotion for Weight Watcher buddy and candles for me! (all wrapped up now.)

But was the hand of my HP present this moring - met with a guy I used to work with, so we were going through the people we both worked with, who had retired, who had been promoted, who had died etc.

20 years ago, I was part of a four man installation team, I was the oldest by between 2 and 12 years.  My good friend in that team, a little younger than I, died recently of alcohol induced liver disease. Just my HP reminding me of what WILL happen if I take the first drink.

Been in Glasgow last week. I like scottish meetings as they always remind the meeting that it's the first drink that does the damage.

Sooo good to have you drop in Bill.  I was speaking with a sober fellow a couple
of Sundays ago who also mentioned he had a sober friend in Australia who he was
going to see and he and I both had a laugh at how "Sober" and "Australia" always
sounds not quite balanced in the conversation.  He reminded me that he only has
one sober friend in Australia.  I use to work with their communications department
and had family and friends who were there...none of them reported in sober.

Of course I'm funning.  smile

Hehe National stereotypes, we've all got 'em. all the scots are off their face on whisky, all the irish drink guiness, all the aussies drink stubbies, all the english are on gin and beer, all the americans are on cocktails and bourbon, all the french are on wine, the germans on beer and bratwurst, the italians on vermouth, the russians on vodka etc.
