Greetings and a question...

Hey folks,
I just joined and am enjoying this forum immensely. I have been sober for a year and a few twenty four hours and have an alcoholic history that dates back to childhood. I'm 56 now. This site is helping me to understand AA and some of the issues that arise at meetings and with the recovery process. That being said and as this is my first post, would someone be so kind to explain to me what a mardey arse is? Thanks for your replies and thanks for a great site!

(((Mosinjoe)))
Welcome!

*giggling* ........A mardy arse is someone like Dean says who is a "complaining miserable person."(misery-guts)

It doesn't have to be constant - it can just be for a brief period .....sometimes longer......yes,  some folks are renowned for being constant "mardy arses" ....they are usually best avoided !!!!biggrinwink

It is an affectionate saying - not meant with any vitriole!

Louisa

What one can learn on this site! I think the term is kind of cool and I have to confess that I have been in that state of mind a time or two in my life. I think it's wonderful that we have a fellowship that shows us how to keep the bubble in the middle and have a little serenity so those "mardy arse " moments can stay in check. biggrin

OOoooh I could get reight mardy now - I'm not from Ireland or somewhere like that I'm from God's Own County, Yorkshire, England. As I said before there are only two kinds of people in the world. those of us born in Yorkshire and the rest. (who wish they were!)

A mardy arse is, as others have pointed out, a petulant whiner. as above. :¬)
Otherwise known as spitting the dummy out, getting the lip on etc.etc.

Ah America and England two countries divided by a common language eh?

Just my sense of humo(u)r

I remember when a guy would always ask.."would you like some chess with that?" He asked me that several times while talking to him about all my grand life problems. I finally asked him what he meant and he laughed...

"Would you like some chess with your whine?"

LOL
John
