I don't "do" Facebook or MySpace. I have very good reasons (professionally) to not want people to easily locate me or know too much about me--even for stuff totally unrelated to alcoholism or recovery.

I've been doing the "on line socializing" thing for as long as I have been sober, and that's way before anybody ever heard of Facebook. I set up an anonymous account because some family members wanted to be able to contact me that way, share pics, etc. but I've been around this whole internet privacy thing a long time, and FB just rubs me the wrong way. Since it's "free" to regular members, it has to be making money somewhere and it's doing that by harvesting. I've already been harvested to the point that I get 5,000 spams a week and almost none of them are even targeted.
I would also like to remind everyone that this board can be read publicly - you have to be a member to post, but anyone anywhere can read it. Therefore, I do not recommend you include any personal information such as your full name or anything else such as an actual photo of yourself, if you wish to maintain anonymity.
All in all, I'd much rather be here than Facebook. I probably visit this board 20 times for every time I even peek at FB, and I've posted 20x more here than I'll ever post to FB if I live to be 90.
