I heard this at an AA meeting. 1. Have you still got your family? Yes. 2. Have you been to jail? No. 3. Have you still got a job? Yes. 4. Have you still got a house car etc.? Yes.
The speaker said, if these things have not happen to you yet, well continue drinking and all of these things will definitely happen. It was not a threat. Actually it was a promise based on his actual experience. That was enough motivation for me to get on the 12 step program. That was some 22 years ago. I often have to share this with stubborn newcomers, who do not believe me. The tragedy of the alcoholic is not that we drink too much, but that in the face of overwhelming evidence, we still do not believe in the recovery program.

When I was drinking I had a list of yets. I always said this han't happened yet or that hasn't happened yet. Slowly the yets on my list were being checked off until about the only left was I haven't killed anyone yet. I thank God every day that he saved me from myself before that one was checked off.

Yup, the good old Your Entitled To. I was told about this at my first AA meeting, and I got all you listed ans more. I try and let the new comer know today that they don't have to have the YET's if they stop before the elevator hits the last floor. Some get it, and some don't.
