and its my fault. I have just become swamped here with work and when I return I am tired. I do work for myself but I have to take it where I can get it. Still sober despite myself. Them Lone Stars are sure calling me though.
Irrelevent news, I lost a hen this morning or last night, I believe do to heat. I hope I dont loose more, I depend on those eggs for selling and eating.

Hey Texan. Glad your still sober. You didn't mention if your going to AA meetings or not. Are you? That's where you'll find a sponsor. I know what it's like to be busy, but I ALWAYS make time for AA. Today, anything I put IN FRONT of my sobriety I WILL lose...no question about it. So, I guess you need to figure out what's the most important thing in your life. For me, it's AA and sobriety. If that sounds selfish, it is. My wife, kids, and family like me today because I am sober. They know what I have to do to stay sober, and are willing to make that small sacrifice to have a dad and husband around.
I hate being tired, but I HATE being drunk even more!!!
Hi Texan - used to live in Dallas :) Reffner makes some excellent points that i've learned the hard way. so much of the program involves surrender..."half measures availed us nothing." It reminds me of when i have a job to do - it's harder to try to half-a-- it, procrastinate, etc. than it is just to remove the procrastination/fear, whatever and just do it. It's easier! Great job staying sober, now a good sponsor and the steps can help you make the most of that sobriety - which for me has meant striving for "spiritual progress." Your fellows in the program are always with you!
the meetings will keep you sober but if your not working the Steps your not in recovery. The Steps are recovery and you need a sponsor to do that they are not designed to be worked alone . We have created a website for sponsorship RumRadio.org How to find sponsor interview a perspective sponsor,do they have a sponsor etc to see if it is a good fit, tips tools and suggestions if you find value pass it on,in the meantime lets get started.

Interesting. What about those who are IN recovery through something other than AA? I know of a few who are sober and in recovery (one with double digit years) that have never attended an AA meeting. I was told early on (and still believe today) that AA is not the only way. Granted, it's the only way that worked for me, but lack of AA or step work does not mean lack of recovery imo.

But that's just me...

I am in full agreement. My experience has shown that AA is not the only way to get sober but I also have seen that it works best for most including this alcoholic.
My take on Joseph's posting was he was referring to working the AA program and I agree that if you are not working the steps while in AA then you may just be a dry drunk instead of a recovering alcoholic. My drinking was but only a symptom of my disease.
Larry, ------------------- Knowing is not enough; we must apply!
I do want to thank yall for your support. I will make some meetings. I just got tied up with life there for a minute. Fall is coming and my tractor services will slow down to repairs and what not.

I have been sober for 2.5 years and still don't have a sponsor. I doubt(at least for right now) I ever will. I go to meetings regularly and have worked the steps. One of the first members I met has been sober for 15, or so, years and never had a sponsor.
I'm not saying it works for everybody, I'm probably in a small minority, but it seems to work for me. If you feel the need, by all means find one. And a meeting is the best place.
14 months for me, and I'm looking for a sponsor but have just not run across the right person yet. I'm married so my wife is there to keep me accountable to a certain extent.
