hey rodney - i've gone through a couple of sponsors. one went back out. one we just clashed over when to work a step. my latest is so stressed over work, he can't handle what it takes to be positive w/a sponsee. So, stuff happens. We're all sick. I went back to the one who i had the disagreement over a step issue - we remained friends. but the best hting is to make some goals, like: pick 3 meetings you like. note the people who raise their hands as sponsors. then, approach the one you're drawn to - don't hesitate! Let your higher power lead you to your sponsor w/no fear, doubts, etc. Pick the person your gut tells you, and go with it!! If that doesn't work, do it again. Good luck!

Hi

These problems come up more than you would think. We put together a website for sponsorship it address these kind of scenarios. How to fire a sponsor,as all sponsorship is temporary either for a day or a lifetime or anywhere in between. I f its not working for both its not working.  how to find a new sponsor  what to look for and questions to ask that it will be a better fit . Check your motives before you do anything and then discuss the problem with your current  sponsor this is part of being responsible and being in recovery. The website is RumRadio.org and if you find value please pass it on

Although I have the same sponsor who helped me through the steps when I first got sober, our relationship has changed, and we only connect a few times a year for the past several years. That doesn't mean I'm beyond sponsorship, though, and I've found that the best way to ensure I have the guidance I need is to cultivate an AA network.

Are there other guys in your area who will answer the phone when you call? IMO, they don't need to have more time sober than you -- just have good, solid program.

It's controversial in some places, but I rarely rely on "official sponsorship" when I need feedback. All I need is people who will tell me the truth. So long as I'm not calling around until I get the answer I'm looking for, this works for me.

Peace & Love,
Sugah

Could not agree more. If you are nearing 10 years sober and you are still relying on calling your sponsor everyday... Work on your relationship with God... "Much has been said about receiving strength, inspiration, and direction from Him who has all knowledge and power. If we have carefully followed directions, we have begun to sense the flow of His Spirit into us. To some extent we have become God-conscious. We have begun to develop this vital sixth sense."

Unless your sponsor is still your higher power, and you are through step 9... then watch for your character defects, ask God to remove them, discuss with someone (not necessarily your sponsor ), and find someone to help... We are specially suited to help other alcoholics, but we can help anyone too.

Rodney,

I am not sure what "noone will help me in my face to face" is all about?  Maybe you need some different meetings if no one will help you in the meetings you are attending.

Larry,
