Hi,
just joined today and this is my first post. I'm 73 days sober (the longest I've been without a drink since childhood!), and am doing pretty well mentally, not craving. I'm physically struggling though and wonder if anyone shares similar experience.

I'm feeling very physically tired, in my muscles and joints (sleeping like a log though), I feel 80, though I'm mid forties. my feet are painful in the morning/after sitting for a while and it takes some very stiff minutes to 'walk it out'

I'm wondering if this is seperate to the alcohol but i was always too wasted to notice or if others shared similar symptoms after quitting. and if its post accute withdrawal syndrome. I'm certain i'm malnourished as my food intake was pathetic while drinking. Am taking Vit C, B complex, magnesium, zinc and Gucosamine and chondroitin now.

Would appreciate any comments!

Have you been to a doctor?  Your symptoms could be any one of a bunch of things.

I think it's a good idea to visit a doctor when newly sober and be tested for diabetes among other things.  I developed type II diabetes after some years sober - it probably had more to do with my weight and eating habits than drinking - but my Dr. was happy to hear I didn't drink.

Aneleh

(((WELCOME))) and WELL DONE on 73 days !!!! WELL DONE !!!
It really is so good to hear of the vitamins and care you are taking of yourself........great stuff.

I remember when I got sober....I seemed to be getting allkinds of colds and bugs and I remember saying to my sponsor......begrudgingly ....."Huh! Well I never got as many colds as this when I was drinking".....She just smiled and said ....."Oh you probably did Louisa...you just don't remember them !!!!!"ashamed

In my experience it can take time to feel physically better but most folk do. My tiredness and lethargy & flu symptoms  just never left me and  I was eventually diagnosed with an immune system problem. It can be way too easy to dismiss everything as "just early sobriety symptoms"........

I tend to go along with Barisax. I think it's a great idea to get a check up/ blood test in early sobriety and to place that side of things in the hands of a professional.

Once again, WELL DONE,
Lovely to meet you!
louisa xx

welcome Aneleh! yes I would also suggest a check up. After boutssmile  of poisoning its not a bad idea to have a check up and explain your symptoms to a medical person.Congratulations on 73 days of sobriety, continue the miracle "one day at a time".Hope to see you back here sahring your experience, strength and hope with  us...peacesmile

Hello Aneligh and welcome to the board.  I'm agreeing with Barisax about getting to the doctor.  Paws symptoms are more like fatique, apathy, irritability, inability to consentrate...  The symptoms that you mentions sound like possible liver issues, which is very common for us to have.  I found out that I had Hep C at 1 year sober during a routine physical.

Aloha Aneleh and good job on the 73 days of sobriety.  Welcome here to MIP
and stick around while we help each other and others get and stay sober.  Life
changes when I got off drinking were huge.  I got alot of my awareness back
along with feelings when the alcohol was gone which was predicted and I also
had lots of time to consider my life which I usually had spent living in the
disease.  It made for lots of "different" time and I began to notice stuff I had
not before some real some not.   Using professionals such as doctors and
therapists was very different for me but useful because I wasn't working with
a clouded brain and could be taught.  I may have had or experience PAWS
and most of all of it just passed as I began working the program which was
my hardest endeavor.  Welcome to the board...stick around and get and stay
sober with us.

In support ((((hugs)))) smile

Welcome Aneleh!  Glad you decided to join us.  I go along with the others here that's it's probably time for check up and discussion with your doctor.  It's also a good time to get honest with them and let them know of your alcoholism.  This will help you now and in the future should things come up.  I had many mental and physical changes when newly sober.  These things will pass with time and action taken on your part.

Thanks for the warm welcome and advice! HP knows how, but got my blood analysed about 4months ago while still drinking an awful lot and everything, including liver fine. Aready fessed up to my GP about 3 yrs ago about alcoholism and spent that time failing to find any help through the 'system' it was desperation with this that finally got me to AA and its the support and friendship i have found there that has me happily sober today. I look forward to becoming a 'regular' here. Thanks again to all.

Welcome. Well done on 73 days of sobriety. Need to get plenty of vitamins, particularly Vitamin E and Vitamin B complex. That worked for me. But also prayer and rest. Find a hobby. I used to experiment with planting different type of lawns. My day job used to tire me out.
Wish you well.

It's been my experience that the worst symptoms of withdraw are usually gone in 2 weeks (that was the case for me) For me, the physical part of quitting was way easier than the mental part. I still suffer from the mental part of this disease, and accept that I always will (AA is my treatment for that). A visit to your Doc, and being TOTALLY honest with him is good advice mentioned several time by other's here.

73 day's of sobriety is fantastic. Keep at it, one day at a time, and you'll be amazed in no time how great life can really be!

Brian
