Today's thought from Hazelden is:

Changing our attitudes

Our prayer is, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." We say this prayer at least once a day because, although we must accept the things we cannot change today, they may, in fact, change tomorrow.

This seems to be a paradox, yet once we truly and completely accept something, it begins to change. While the objective fact remains unchanged, our attitude toward it and our relationship to it have changed. It is with our attitudes toward people and things that we must learn to live.

Am I changing my attitudes?

Higher Power, help me live fully today, neither forward nor backward, but here and now.

Time flies by far too quickly, and days often meld in together. I will feel as though, no, my attitudes towards various things seems to remain pretty static, and I scowl into the mirror  'really, Chris, isn't it time to move past or grow in that area"? And then, I'm presented with something unexpected, and in retrospect I look at how I handled it and I realize that yeah, growth is so slow, sometimes, that just like watching myself age, I don't realize I truly have changed in some area. Unlike comparing pictures from ten years ago to a picture of today, it's harder to see how our attitudes have changed unless we see ourselves in a situation and compare how we handle it. Or, better yet, how we turn it over to God and allow Him to handle it through us. That's when I see changes in myself.

Sometimes, we fail to see how far we've all really come. We aren't even aware of letting go of old attitudes until we realize when we look down, that our hands are open and releasing.     Chris (wren)
