I've just spent a day in Newcastle upon Tyne, being brainwashed by Human Resources at work. The stick is the same but been renamed and the carrots have been taken away. The light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off to help reduce carbon footprint. Thank God that though I can be cynical, I have just enough programme to realise that I am sicker some days than others and other people can be even sicker than me.
Still - my Brother rang me just as I was about to leave for home, to ask me to look at a Triumph Thunderbird in a Newcastle Motorcycle dealers (A Harley dealer of all places.) As it was pretty local, I looked in and got my brother on the phone with my verdict - which was go to the bank and get the money out now. It's immaculate.
So now my missus calls me to tell me that my daughters, boyfriends father (who is a second hand car dealer) had offered my son a car. Remember a few months ago I got upset at what I saw was this man usurping my position. Well you all were pretty helpful over that and now rahter than seeing this man as a threat, I see my daughter helping her brother to make a solid choice on a second hand car, by using her experience and her contacts.
Well can you see the parallels between my daughter nad her brother and me and my brother?

I'd take the light at tthe end of the tunnel being turned off for the carbon footprint any day, every time I see a light at the end of the tunnel it's a train
Great share, I get it.../nod
I love those a-ha moments, just the little ones ya know, the inadverdant 10th step "last year I was doing this and it was painful and messy, this year I am doing the same thing, and it only took 48 hours to get through, maybe soon I won't have it at all.

Just had a call from my Brother, he's bought the T'Bird delivery to him in 2 weeks. Also checked up on the Honda Logo that my Son's been offered, looks like a real good deal, nice wee car. My mate Mark teh Mechanic will give it the pre buy once over for my son.

Choice has less to do with it than affordability, insurability and availability.
He'd really rather have a Series A Land Rover, but they go for around £5000 a time, are uninsurable for a newly qualified driver and there aren't too many of them.

hondas are fine, sickeningly reliable, well specified but they're still as bland as a Honda.
land rover meanwhile, crude, lumpy, bumpy, no frills, no luxuries, does what it says on the tin, a car for a petrol head who isn't in a rush but wants to drive anywhere, on anything, carrying everything, capable of being repaired with a bit of spit and ingenuity and a big hammer and finally will still be pulling up stumps when the Hondukis of this world will be a wind blown rusty wreck.
But that's just my opinion and probably up for challenge from willys Jeep fans. But the landie is still king of the hill.
