Disclaimer:  This is not my writing but it is interesting and as an Alcoholic I can identify with it.

Larry,
-------------------

The Alcoholic And Impulsiveness

The alcoholic has little patience and does not like waiting for anything.  This is combined with the fact that typically they also have rather short attention spans.  Their mind is generally too muddled to plan anything, so they tend to act on impulse more often than not.  And keep in mind, the addiction is technically "located" in the area of the brain most noted for its impulsivity.

Good morning Larry.   What you posted is so true for me.  I am still impulsive, but at least I know it now, and can sometimes listen to reason.  The impulse to drink has been replaced with an impulse to eat, so now that I am sober I can decide to go for a walk instead.  I still do impulsive things.  I can laugh about it now, and wish my husband could, too.  poor man.  He and I could both use the Al Anon 12 step program, so I guess it is up to me to take that step.
Thank you so much for your post.
jj
