Today's thought from Hazelden is:

Being Present

Realtiy can be a difficult place to live. Sometimes it seems impossible to stay in the here and now.

From time to time we all revisit the past and yearn for the future. This is natural. Being present every minute of the day is impossible for anyone.

Still, we can strive to be present for as many minutes as we can. We strive for progress, not perfection.

Today, am I doing what I can to be present?

Thought for the Day

A small dose of reality is better than no reality at all.

You are reading from the book:

Larry,
Wowzers. Thanks for sharing that with us. Once again something I needed to hear.

I used to spend so much time in my own little world to avoid the reality. NOt realizing that only hurt me more.

Today I choose to live in reality and not hide from it.

Yours in recovery,
Mandy

Hi family,
In my sick little mind
my own little world used to "protect" me from reality and i did not realize what damage it did until AA got me interested in sobriety and reality.  sometimes i still feel like a little child in a big bad world... but then i remember my Higher Power and His Promises.  Life is so much better and living in the present is a real gift.
hugs from jj

Being present is probably the most useful thing I have learned.  One of my biggest problems, I am sure I share with many of you, is that I am always concerning myself with what happened (or what I did), or worrying about what is going to happen.

When I catch myself doing that and my mind wandering to those places I find that I can bring myself to the present.  Right here right now.  I am one happy SOB.

No one can stay in the present. But we can learn that when we are not there we can always get ourselves back at the speed of thought.

I have heard meditation helps people achieve this easier.  I have not tried but maybe I will.
