AA book pg 27.
The doctor said: "You have the mind of a chronic alcoholic. I have NEVER seen one single case recover, where that state of mind existed to the extent that it does in you."
Towards the end of my drinking I wondered what was wrong with me. I could not understand how I was able to function in every other facet of my life, except with the drink problem.
This statement in the AA book explained it. Thank God for honest doctors. He did not prescribe drugs for the problem. I have the mind of an alcoholic and I am never going to recover. If somebody had told me this truth earlier, I might have got well sooner.
As an alcoholic I did not need pep talks. Instead I needed a great dosage of the truth.
The AA book gets to the point. The PROBLEM. The SOLUTION. The APPLICATION program. This is not something I can play around with. Half truths can kill. My sponsor was not blunt, he was truthful. He said if I did not do these steps properly, I am not going to recover.
To newcomers, do not experiment with alcohol. Do not keep looking for solutions. There is a solution for an alcoholic of my type. It is done in masterly detail in the AA book and it works.

I needed the truth also but until I had hit my personnal bottom I would not believe the truth.

So many people told me I drank too much,  I did not believe them

I took the twenty question test. Answered eighteen yes, I did not belive it applied to me.

I could not stay in a relationship.  My wifes parting words were if you ever get sober look me up.   I did not believe it obviously drinking was not our problem.

I went to Captains mast in the Navy and was busted due to getting drunk and not showing up.  I did not believe that it was my drinking.  The real culpret was that SOB that wrote me up.

This list could go on and on.  Until I hit my bottom and I was ready, no words, or actions could convince me I had a problem.

This is just applies to me.  Everyones experience is different.  I certainly was a hard headed drunk.

Larry,

Danger sign: When your eyes have wandered from the alcoholic who
still suffers and needs help-----to the faults of those whom the
program has already helped

Thank you

Very Very Simple

I think many newcomers don't know is what we are is a fellowship named after a Program (the one in the book) not the other way around, and when we start changing it around it's not AA any more.
