I always try to go to the meetings, I not very fond of. But I go there still, because most times I will meet someone that needs me. We just chat and before you know it, we are still standing at the meeting place talking, and the caretaker has to usher us away because he has to close. We exchange phone numbers, and there starts a new friendship. Then I find myself going to that meeting, because I have a friend there.
Well I'm back. It was great! I friggen loved it! Haha! Isn't that weird? Same meeting, different night, loved it. The speaker was awesome, the "chair" people were awesome and then afterward the lady that was sitting behind me started talking to me and then we went for a coffee and talked for an hour and a half!
I am SO GLAD I went! Also the lady answered some questions I had about aa and I think now I would feel more comfortable venturing out to a closed discussion meeting.
Ha-HAAAAAAA!!!!!!! Of COURSE it was GREAT!!!! You WANTED to be there. When I don't want to be somewhere, I don't care if it is a Day Spa in the South of France- if I am not "into" something, I can find fault in it.
Yippeeee!!!! Closed Discussions rock... the "meat and potatoes", in my opinion. Enjoy! (chomp chomp)
(((hugs))) Joni

Thanks for all the encouragement!!
That is fantastic news
When I was 15 or so, my best friends father had a plaque in his kitchen that read:
"Oh to be half as wonderful as my child thought I was...
Or half as stupid as my teenager thinks I am"
AA was like that for me, when I didn't want to be there I had never seen such a pack of stupid, boring and glum hypocrites that were obviously lying about how long they had been sober.
Fast forward to me wanting to be there and they are my new family

Exactly the same for me. I even made a point a while back of going back to a meeting in a rough-ish area near me that freaked me out when I first came in. Absolutely loved it. Yep, the same folks who used to drive me bonkers, I love to see now. I want to be there now.
My first meeting which was on the Naval Base at Pearl Harbor I will always remember for the warm welcome and the hope in that room.
My problem was I thought that I might be too old for the AA program I was 31 years old at the time of the Approximaely 40 AA members present there was only one person older than me. So I really did wonder am I too old? (LOL)
I might explain that I was a career Sailor in the US Navy at the time and most of the attendee's were not. They were in their 1st and for most of them their only enlistment.
I went to my 2nd meeting in downtown Honolulu and wondered where did all these old farts come from?
As an old fart now I am glad you had a positive meeting experience. It makes it so much easier to come back to another meeting. You said in your original post that:
"I have a feeling it will be better "
We tend to experience exactly what we make up our mind it will be. If we think it will be bad, we will think that it was bad. On the other hand if we expect it to be good or at least better, it will be.
Keep Coming Back
Larry, ------------------------- AA won't keep you from going to hell, nor is it a ticket to heaven, but it will keep you sober long enough for you to make up your mind which way you want to go!

So good to hear, all of it. Just push the Repeat Everyday Button, and in no time, you will be smack into the middle of a wonderful Program for yourself.....
The often mentioned suggestion of how to begin, are tried and true, it is my Prayer for you sweet friend, that you follow them.
So happy you made a personal connection, was that your very first personal contact???
Hugs and proud of you for taking those negative self thoughts and flushing them and going to that Meeting...
Yes that was first contact. It was great. We talked about going to a tuesday night meeting together that she said is really good. And we exchanged phone numbers. So yay! First AA buddy!
