Today's thought from Hazelden is:

The future you shall know when it has come; before then, forget it.
-- Aeschylus

The Fellowship keeps us grounded in the current moment. We learn to live today. Our planning and scheming and dreaming about tomorrow becomes less time consuming. The idea of living one day at a time makes sense to us. Our Program teaches us that life is not about to happen, it is happening, and each moment is important.

When we concentrated only on the future, we couldn't be happy with today. We thought if we could only get to tomorrow, things would be better. Tomorrow never comes, so we were always trapped in a hopeless situation. Now we live one day at a time, and grow moment by moment.

Recovery is about today and living life in the present. Since I no longer have to manage the universe, I have only myself to worry about today. I can let my Higher Power take care of tomorrow.

I have to chuckle when I see phrases AA's use when describing what it was like:

"Since I no longer have to(roll out red carpet)--> Manage the Universsse  <--(Tah-Daaaaahhhh!!! DING~DONG~DING~DONG- "chop chop!! the KING the KING!!!!!"), I have only myself to worry about today <--(deflation, bummer)."

For a bunch of egomaniacs, it's just no fun to live in reality sometimes, is it!?

Ha!!!!!  Just goes to show us how damned IMPORTANT we think we are sometimes, puffed up to the point where "We Shall Reign" ... and reign over what? We haven't a clue... and if we did have a clue, we wouldn't be the tattered flea-bitten lot of drunks that we are. (Pip Pip) And in my shattered state, I am grateful and proud to be a part of the tattered.

Hi,
I also am amongst the ranks of the tattered. Grateful to find others
on the Trudge.

I looked for Reality on Mapquest but could not find it.  I discovered it was in a church basement.smile

Tattered flea-bitten lot of drunks?  Oh no I was a lot worse than that.  As a matter of fact the longer I stay sober the drunker I used to be. (LMAO)

An Alcoholic will understand my last sentence.
