Just thought I would post about a new meeting I have gone to lately. Its a womens meeting. I have been going to the same meeting week in, and week out. Dont' get me wrong I love those meetings! But a woman told me about an all womens meeting on Wednesday evenings. At first I thought how boring, but I needed to shake it up a bit and try new things. I loved it. I knew when I spoke that the women just understood me a little bit better. Hey guys not saying I don't learn lots from you. Just saying to anyone new out there, please don't be afraid to go to more then one type of meeting. I sat next to a woman who at the end of the meeting said "i think this is the best meeting I have ever been to!" It was great to walk out with such a big smile on my face and to see it on everyone elses too.
A funny thing happened a few years ago while vacationing on the NC beach my wife and I looked up a meeting, upon arrival we saw it was a womens meeting.
I offered to sit it out, but they insisted we both stay, which was great because I really needed a meeting.
The women had a wonderful connection with each other and where obviously very nice to let me attend.

Generally speaking, but not always more so than at mixed, there is more of a love-fest at women only groups. I feel the spirit, love and support more tangibly. I am not a typical girly girl and orginally distrusted groups of women. Have to say I am utterly grateful my first meeting was WO and that I've continued to go to the two that are offered locally. There can be more F-bombs because women will really let it rip more often when guys aren't around in my experience.
At one discussion women only meeting I go to there is more griping and moaning about the week or day's trials and not so focused on "the message". Again not always true. I've heard a few men do the same too, just not as much.
For me, the bottom line is a good mixture of people with different lengths of sobriety time who are really working in their programs, be they men or women. We all have more in common, than we are different is what I have found.
I'm just grateful I realized I have a choice. And within AA I have more good choices. I hope everyone enjoys trying different things out.
My therapist specifically recommended at least 1 women's meeting a week to me. I have to say, I really love it. Definitely a different energy in the room & a different type of fellowship.
