Hey All, As you know, we as alcoholics are serious dilly dalliers and I am the poster child for that affliction. The AA slogan "Do it now" was very helpful to me this year as I put in all the numbers. I hope this tax year is good to you all. Tom

I remember when I first came into the rooms and that's one that seemed pretty common with alcoholics, was difficulty with the tax man, it was explained to me it wasn't my $$$ it was their money, and I responded with I have never seen a tax man up in the tree with me risking his life.
I am sorry to say, that is an area in which I have seen zero growth in myself, I still loathe and despise many of the "Initial People" such as The IRS, The DMV, B of A, CHP, and Insurance Companies and do whatever I can to keep their greasy mitts off my $$$.
I have no problems with paying sales taxes on gas and stuff for road upkeep, schools etc but have difficulty with Fed taxes.
This is just my opinion, and I keep it strictly that way, but it's how it is.
I agree however with being happy about overcoming procrastination, I have strong views about procrastination too and will post about it.....later.

I JUST NOW finally finished compiling my 2009 mileage from various assorted notepads, e-mails to myself, scratches on my old planner(s). I put over 12,600 miles on my poor KIA last year! Selling radio in iowa is a lot like fishing a huge lake; lots of empty water (30 or 40 miles of corn-fields) between anything that will hold fish (towns with at least one water-tower on the horizon).
so, at 12,600 miles, generously allotting 23 MPG, I spent almost $1500 on gas last year JUST for work. Thank God that my car is almost 10 years old and paid for!
So, even if I bought a 50 mpg hybrid I'm still better off.
Ya know what I miss? My 1972 Toyota Corona. In 1987 it got 34 MPG. Why did car companies stop making the 4-cylander beaters that got mid-30's MPG?
aquaman i'm choking here - 12 600 miles at 23 mpg! this tax year (a quiet one for me) I've done 18500 miles but my car averages 55 mpg. you're paying around $2.72 a gallon. we're paying £1.15 a litre (around £5.20 a UK Gallon) and I get 11 pence a mile. (but I get the car provided for me, even though it costs me £180 a month in tax and personal use contribution).
Last year I banged in over 28000 miles and the year before a staggering 32000.
Thankfully though, employed people (as opposed to self employed) are taxed at source, i.e. pay as you earn, but then there's the value added tax, the road fund licence, the council tax, the water rates, fuel duty (which is also taxed), insurance tax. Sometimes i think I should go to the treasury every 3rd month and just hand my wages over. Still, like my dad used to say, if you're paying a lot of tax, you're earning a lot of money.

Well if I drive like granny mazda, the beast over there on the left will give me over 55 mpg (best I've had was 220 miles out the tank, in one hit, there was maybe a pint left in the tank.) but mostly it's around 45 mpg. (Worst I ever did was 10 miles to the tank and did the run in an hour and 20 minutes.)
For business use I have a Vauxhall Insignia Diesel (good ol' GM), 2l of low pressure turbo, 6 gears and cruise control, good stereo, great seat, big boot (trunk?), black, great motorway car but a bit of a whale on the country lanes.
It's classed as a big car over here, where the roads are small and crowded, so I get a bit of stick from the company tree huggers who think I should be in a little Corsa. But I'm not corsa shaped and don't fancy covering the ground in a motorised pram. My patch is from Liverpool to Skegness coast to coast and everything North of that, including all of Scotland and the Highlands and Islands. Love it. Get the chance to get to loads of meetings when I'm on the road, see some stunning scenery, get some fishing in, some walking and some wildlife and bird watching. When I'm not on the road, then I have an office at home.
