I'll be attending my first meeting tonight. I have been looking forward to it. Having a very bad day and feeling all alone. Hope to find some fellowship and start developing faith in the future.

Hang in there Sid.My first meeting was very positive for me.I still dont talk much but its good to listen. My first few days sober I felt Really crappy, sick, and depressed. I started realizing all the damage I've caused in my life and around me. Most stuff can be repaired.
- Your never alone just take it all one day at a time like they say.

Hi Sid, welcome to the board and congrats for going to your first meeting along with making a decision to stop drinking, which is the only requirement for membership. Let us know how your first meeting went.

Hi Sid,handshake.gif

Welcome, keep coming back and share often.   I went to my first meeting a long time ago but I remember it like it was yesterday.

A room full of people that were enjoying life, they were friendly, smiling and welcomed me with genuine careing.   Totally different than what I had pictured in my mind an AA meeting would be like.

They sure gave me hope because it had been a long time since I felt like smiling or
laughing.

Hope that the feeling of peace will hit you like it did me. I was so comfortable just sitting there listening and not having to do anything but start my recovery!! Its still like that today after 2 years. There is nothing like it!! Congratulations on your decision and hope you have a serene day!!!

Thank you all. I made it to my first meeting and it was great. Everyone was very welcoming and I wasn't feeling like such the outcast I had been lately. I found myself at a closed meeting and they did a newcomers meeting just for me. They went around the room and everyone told their story. It really gave me hope. I left with The Big Book and a list of phone numbers. I am looking forward to my next meeting.

Well done Sid, it takes some cojones to go to your first meeting, especially on your own. Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life.

Great to hear that things went great.  I am sure someone told you to keep coming back and don't drink one day at a time.

That was the message that I got from my first meeting and I am still coming back.  I have not picked up since that first meeting because I was told I did not have to.

Share often, you are among friends now.

Happy to receive all the support for attending my first meeting. Made it to another meeting today as well and was greeted just as warmly. A whole different group of people from yesterday. It was an Open Big Book meeting. I look forward to attending more. My whole attitude was much more positive today after attending only one meeting.

As always appreciate all the comments. Particularly the 90 in 90 suggestion. I'm currently at 4 in 3.

Sid,

I would be willing to bet that that "FEELING ALL ALONE" has started to go away?
Great work on 4 in 3.  Keep it up it works if you want it and work it.

That "FEELING ALL ALONE" has begun to diminish. The AA meetings have certainly been helpful as has the encouragement I have received on these boards. I very much appreciate the kindness I have been shown by everyone here and at AA. I am very pleased to be getting involved in the fellowship and meeting such wonderful people.

Welcome Sid... This is the start of an amazing journey for you and I am happy for you. You just took one of the greatest steps.... I picked up my 1 year medallion at the same place I went to my first meeting at and I can't tell you how awesome that felt to be free from alcohol and to note the difference in between what had happened over just 1 year of not drinking from my first meeting to that point...

Keep coming back and give this your all in order for it to work!

Mark

Nice work, Sid.

I went to meetings 4 years ago when I did 5 weeks sober. Longest stretch in 13 years, but it ended badly and kept going. Until last night. Last night I unfortunately got into some trouble (caused by alcohol) that led me to spend 9 hours in a jail cell. Horrible, horrible experience. And on the way home guess what I did? I picked up 2 24-oz beers.

And I lay on my couch, enjoying its comfort after a night spent on metal benches and a concrete floor. Things were a bit tense at the house, as my lady was obviously none too pleased. So I decided to take those 2 beers, go drive somewhere and drink them.

And then I thought, "Have you lost your mind? That's why you ended up where you did last night!" So instead of drinking, I looked online and found a meeting near me. I couldn't remember the name of the place I had gone a few years ago, so I went to one that sounded fun. Funny enough, a couple people I met at that meeting happened to be headed to another meeting...at the place I had been trying to remember. So we headed there next.

All said, 4 meetings today, 24+ hours without a drink. Now for the next 24.

Great job BuzzGT! I tried out a new location tonight for a meeting and had a great experience. I take something away from peoples stories at each meeting. I was told I should set a goal of 90 meetings in 90 day and that is what I am trying for. Appears you have more than a great start on accomplishing that as well.

Keep putting those 24 hours together.
