Stay home!! But I didn't and so before the morning meeting I was standing amid 5 cop cars, two ambulances, one fire truck and some guy on a moped that made the wrong decision on a wet surface and ended up with some road rash as a consequence. The cops were called and I told him "you gotta do what you gotta do" which didn't improve his percentage from the first choice he made. The cops came 5 vehicles worth, 2 ambulances, 1 fire truck and I stopped counting. Mid term he walked past me in the midst of the drama and said "It would have been better if I had not called them!!". I muttered something back about being responsible for our choices and waited for one of the police officers to come get my information. It must have been a training day LOL because there was another mini- me in uniform with his little note book writing what seemed to be a novel. Every body went home or where ever them came from and the meeting started on time but late...weird morning. I was thinking of inviting the moped pilot to the meeting however, let go and let God seemed the better idea. It wasn't about being right for me but about being happy so lets go on with the day. There was lots of stuff to be grateful for and then later this evening some Joe in a pickup truck I was sitting next to at a traffic stop, left turn, decides he wants to change lanes to the right in the middle of the turn. This time I let brakes and then horn and then God plus a few words in french with the windows up kinda sorta hoping he was going to pull into the same Home Depot parking lot I was going to. Didn't happen. What did happen was I started to feel insecure and afraid of being "out there" and without anything to calm my nerves. I don't do booze anymore and became aware of just what hypervigilant feels like without a mind altering mood altering chemical mixed in. I finished what I had to do and taking extra care made it home in the rain and separated nicely from the rest of traffic.
Waking up inside of the 3rd step prayer really helps to set up the rest of the day.
I'm gonna keep doing that and staying in doors for the rest of the evening.
Was he drunk or high? Don't know and didn't ask as it came under the heading of Mind My Own Business. No one got arrested as there was individual responsibilities and consequences. I guess you could say he arrested himself and the meeting and members help me continue to arrest the disease. It works when you work it. Who knows. Sometime in the future he may mosie over to find out what it is that all of us former drunks are doing in the morning and and want to hang on the fringe to listen. I'll certainly give him another hug.
The lights and sirens can be scary, then add that bad driver as you were taking extra care to get home.
Happy you made that choice.....may you have a serene filled day with you HP.
We have had a ton of rain in California, and really cold weather blowing up to 30mph to go with it. Was out the other evening and it felt just like Mid December here on the San Diego Coastline.....
"Gratitude unlocks the fulness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." - Melody Beattie
