Starting a College Group
Permalink

Hi

I just found out that the local Community College did have a group but disbanded after people graduated or went on to the bigger colleges.

Anybody have advice as to how to approach to get a new Group started.

I have seen a few people at the school that I see in meetings.

I'd find a church or other location to rent for the meetings & then just pass it on word by mouth. The first meeting or so may only have a few members attend but once others knows there is a meeting they will come. Here we have a district & we give the meeting a name & go through the district so that meeting will be within the district & be listed on the meeting sheets.

I had this problem when I was in college. There was no group and nobody really seemed interested forming one. Maybe put some signs up with contact info or make some announcments in classes. Good luck. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I missed this one. You'll need some help supporting the meeting. It's good to announce this new meeting at other local meetings for month or two, asking for support of the new meeting.

Hi

Good News, there was a mini seminar on Drugs and Alcohol at the College from the Local Drug Court.

They were talking about what the Court System does and with Offenders of both Alcohol and various Drugs--how long the programs are and what is expected of people while in it.

For some, if can not find job then go to school, so they bring a variety of past things with them.

One of the College Advisors helps to coordinate classes so they can get to the College plus still back it back to Centers or Courts for Drops and such.

After the seminar, I approached her on the idea of a AA Group, she said that would be A Great Idea and She herself would/could be the Advisor.  It was also mentioned about NA since they both follow the same format and sometimes go hand in hand with each other.  I am not sure about that.

The College is on Spring Break until the 15th, so I have time to get some things together and get the word out at other meetings.

Thanks
