I thought you'd decided to wait awhile? In my area they won't let you chair until you have 6 months. Still not sure that's enough time. I'm just not in favor of jumping in too soon. JMHO

Think I chaired my first one at about 5 months sober, but only had 3 months in the program.  Not difficult at all, is it?

The hard part is where you actually commit to chair a meeting at a certain time and place.  We alcoholics aren't real big on commitment.  I just finally made that commitment in my home group after a year, and I'm chairing one meeting a week.

Our meetings have the 6 months 'rule' before charing a meeting, like Tessa's. Good onya for doing it, but the suggestion is for good reason, it can put some members under great stress, which is not good for newcomers, plus there's quite often insufficient knowledge of the programme to be able to chair a meeting.

A good chairperson is one who will shut someone up if they start rambling, and cut anyone off who is going on too long, which can be frightening even for someone who has chairing experience.

Hi

I was chairing meetings with just a few months in--now do not get mad about that.

I was new and had not gotten a list of meetings in town yet--mostly I went to the Treatment Center ones where I had My Physcology appointments and there was usually a meeting just after.

Being at the Center of course means most there had only hours or a few days sober--many a time the person/chair did not make it and Me being the outsider I had more time then any of them.

So, this may be your case, and if you did well, so be it.

Yes, in some/most groups you should have 6 months--only because one has had time to understand the concept of the steps and may have gotten a sponsor.

But in a small group and you have more time then most everyone else there--then Tag you are the Chair.

So, feel good about yourself and drive on and keep sober One Day At A Time.
