A recovered alcoholic was telling a friend that on awakening each morning he prays to God for another day of sobriety, and that each night before retiring he thanks God for having granted him a day of sobriety.

"How do you know it was God who gave you the day of sobriety?" the friend asked.

"It had to be," the man responded.  "He was the only one whom I had asked."

-- Retold in the book "The Spirituality of Imperfection" by Ernest Kurtz and Katherine Ketcham
