Hi All,
weather really getting to me now, and facing another nine days apparently, I need to keep it in the day as I have plenty to do, a chapter to redraft, half a room to sort out files etc. My aa friends managed to make it to a convention in Galway as they could take main roads. I could not go as my son arrives from America at 6 this morning and I need to collect him, I also need to make sure he can get a train for work on sunday. The main roads have been gritted but I live five miles off a main road so these have not. It might as well be five hundred miles. I know I have so much to be grateful for, but am feeling down and low and isolated, this time not of my own making. I am quite fearful of navigating the roads in the morning but need to gain some independence in this weather as I have work next week.

Hi...my road out to where the cleared road is is only about a city block, but when I'm snowed in, it may as well be five miles! I hate driving on ice & have night blindness so I get fearful in bad weather once the sun sets. I tend to hunker down and watch re-runs of Law & Order or something, but eventually the isolation gets real old, and can become quite debilitating. Glad for the Internet! AA has taught me that I can be grateful and feel bad at the same time...it's what I do about it that matters. Glad you posted...enjoy seeing your son!

Same here in South Yorkshire. Just for a change the South East are getting a bit of snow. Luckily, where I park my car it's just a few yards from a bus route. Most of the neighbours round here have either Mercs or Beemers or Range Rovers. The Mercs and Beemers seem to struggle in the snow. The Rangie should be OK but the drivers lack the skills.

Oh! How I identify with you.  I actually started to get a little panicky when they said another 10 days on the news (as it was at the time) well more than a little panicky.

My God did I start projecting.......the worse of course ! ! !
I had to just keep telling myself to keep it in the day(sometimes the hour even) ....and really had to keep telling myself that everytime the panic rose. I kept telling myself Louisa, you have been through worse things in your life than this and and you will deal with this too. Your HP is right by your side.

My very unhelpful flatmate said "oh there are no ambulances" They can't get through.  I thought  to myself d***head! Who asked about ambulances? And who needs to know all those scare stories.......get back to reading your newspaper you ***

Of course, it was fear that was driving my responses - that's why I overreacted to a relatively innocuous statement.....oh well! yawn

Anyway, just wanted to say I truly identify with you and it will all be ok -  our HPs are looking after us! !

If anyone thinks my share dramatic ......... er.....just for the record ! ! ! I DON"T CARE !  biggrin So there ! !
lots of love to my beautiful AA brothers & sisters
L xx

Sorry to hear you are down Lorna :( Even people in South Florida are bundling up in winter coats. It's usually 80 degrees around this time of year but it's in the 40s today.

Hang in there !!
How does the saying go .... Nothing in Gods world happens by mistake.

Everything happens for a reason.  Sometimes I dont understand that reasoning right away, it takes time for it to unfold.  Long as I stay sober, clear headed and focused on Gods will, I see the lesson.

I myself am not in the best of circumstances or enviornment currently either.  But I just keep praying to God that He help me keep my attitude positive .
My life could be alot worse.  I really do have alot to be grateful for.  If I stop looking at all that is bad in my life and start looking at all that is good, I will be alright.

I really feel that Im being told to just simply make the best of a bad situation.
It can be done and I must stay confident of that  smile.gif

Hi Guys, still the same, thanks for all your posts, yes a jeep had to collect my son this morning, but he's home safe. Water's gone now though, pipe frozen, though my neighbours either side have water, my son turned off my small dripping tap the minute he got home, water gone now though. Am wondering whether to get it turned off at mains in case of thaw, any experience would be gratefully appreciated. No smart ass comments though.

I'm snowed in myself. Here in Gatlinburg, TN we only got about three inches Thursday but it was enough for me to run off the side of my steep driveway yesterday. There the car still sits and it's not supposed get above freezing till Monday.

Glad to be able to communicate with you folks!

I suspect you are posting from sunny Hawaii Jerry, no I'm not building up a geographical resentment, though if this weather keeps up, you will have to put up with me for a while, rang a few buddies tonight, they are all as depressed as I am, so we had a very good laugh, I can get water from the hall in the village tomorrow, just need some containers, got everything else in this house, but containers, insulation for pipes, cakes, chocolate, etc, Getting over myself as I write, thanks for posting. Managed to get an excellent rate for a fabulous hotel near work next week if I can get there, I explained my situation to them in an honest fashion, they were great,

Biker!!! My little Jag with AWD gets around fabulous in the snow!! Do your neighbors have big "boat" Beemers and Mercs? Manual shift helps too, I guess.

Tell you what, I too get soooo down in the dumps usually in the winter. I have Seasonal Affective about as bad as anyone. Having to get up and get my lungs full of a blast of freezing air every morning before work was a delight at first though... I also got a snow-breed of dog a few years back, so she keeps me giggly about the snow, she is such a corn-ball in it. :o)

I look for reasons to laugh about it. Fish-tailing out of the driveway, people rocking back and forth to get up steep driveways, little dogs that pop up from the snow and "appear", and then plop back in the snow and "disappear". it is so pretty at times too.

But over the past few years of recognizing and fighting it, I have had to come up with a mental list of things to do to keep me happy in the winter. When it is sunny, no matter how cold it is out, I open all the curtains and blinds for a bit in the afternoon, on days when I am at home before dark, and let the sunlight in. SOOOO important for me to not feel like I live in a world of darkness. Learning to play my husband's video game systems (all purchased for when my stepsons come, but hubby is hooked), watching the newest kids movies out on DVD (I recently watched "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs"... aweosme movie!!!}, etc. etc. etc. I need thinkgs that will keep at least a teensy lick of adrenaline floating around, even if just enough to laugh once in awhile. Comedy is great too. :o) And those snowy walks with the dog, albeit quick ones, are great too.

Hope you feel better, one day at a time!

Joni

Joni - what's a little Jag with AWD? The neighbours have 3 or 5 series Beemers and C series Mercs. I've got a Vauxhall Insignia (basic model) front wheel drive with traction control and ABS. I find switching the traction control off is best for pulling away on snow and ice.

For all of you snowbound people, here is an amusing story from Hong Kong.  Last Friday the temperature was scheduled to go down to (shudder) 15 C. The TV screens in the elevators in our office building announced a cold weather warning and advised everyone to dress warmly.  The locals were all decked out in ski jackets and furs.
