Hello,
I am new to this message boards. But I am very glad I found it. And the reason for searching for it, was because tonight after my nightly AA meeting I had a little trouble at home. And that was when the struggles kicked in. And well, I cant go back to AA so I looked for this. And just what I was looking for I found.
I am sure I will find everything I need here. I have been reading up on some bulletins and everyone seems very nice and helpful.
So anyway, my name is Jacob and I have only not been drinking for about a week. I have been drinking off and on since I was about 15. It took me this long to finally stop, and stop for good. I know it has not been long but a week is better then none, huh.
Well...thanks.

Welcome, Jacob!

Glad your HP and your search engine helped you find
us!
A week is wonderful! It gets better and it gets easier - but NEVER let your guard down! AA is full of slogans and pearls of wisdom. The most effective ones for me are The Serenity Prayer (because that prayer and 'God Da**it!' start with the same word) and "one drink is too many and a thousand is never enough."

Avril put up a great one the other day; It's called AlcoholISm, not AlcoholWASm!

Or as Benjamin Franklin (I think) said,
"Gentlemen, we must hang-on together, or we will most certainly hang seperately."

Welcome,
Rob

The troubles at home and not being able to go back to AA sound familiar to me
and I will let you expand on it if you like.  I'm glad you are here also as there is
a wealth of recovery on the board.   There are also online meetings.   For me
there is nothing I'd sacrafice my sobriety up for willingly and my AA meetings are
the foundation stones of that sobriety.  A week is good and a week and one day
better still.   In support.   smile

Hey Jacob, Welcome!  I am assuming you meant you couldn't go back to AA last night...meaning that the meeting was over and it was too late to go to another one.  This site is helpful in that way to me.  It's here for me in the early AM and the late PM with a message of sobriety whenever I need it.  1 week is a great accomplishment.  Stay the course, keep attending as many meetings as you can and you will be amazed....

Mark

Jacob,

Welcome to the board, there is a lot of sobriety here.  AA worked for me and if it worked for me it will for you too.   It was suggested to me that I make 90 AA meetings in 90 days.  This sounded like a lot to me until an old timer asked if it made sense that I put the same effort into getting and staying sober as I did for drinking.
Somehow that made sense to me.

Find someone who has been sober for a while at a meeting who seems to have the ability to enjoy life as you would like to and ask him to be your sponsor.  The great thing about a good sponsor is that they are available  24 by 7 by phone. You will never again have to feel alone and struggle by yourself between meetings.

Don't Drink, Go to meetings and say a Prayer and it gets better everyday.

Welcome Jacob ! It is my hope for you that you change your mind about the f2f AA meetings cuz they are part of the fellowship as well as very important to a drunks sobriety.
Internet AA is great, dont get me wrong. But I seriously doubt it could replace the side by side warmth , friendship, concern, and love that is felt in the rooms of a meeting.

But hey ... keep coming back here , there are alot of great ppl who seem to me to be always willing to share their ESH. It will undoubtedly prove helpful to you.
