93 days sober, 91 in AA and new to this board

Hi. My name is Aquaman and I'm alcoholic. I have a real-world sponsor and together we're working my steps. I've been instructed to start my step 8 list. Scary.
AA saved my marriage, my life and my job.
I have a facebook account, but it's mostly populated with my old drinking associates, a few family members and Normals; who are uneasy with my new life. In thier experience, when someone says "don't thank me, thank God" it's a warning sign for CAUTION - BIBLE THUMPER AHEAD!!!!

I'm coming to the realization that AA is my community. In AA I have thousands of friends that I haven't met yet. smile

Well - here I am.

Aquaman

Hey Aquaman,
Welcome aboard! Sadly, the old drinking buddies thing ends up being a dilemma. You will be able to work it out with some of them and over time,(a long time) most of them get it. Be patient with them but stick to your guns on the non drinking, AND many times that means avoiding your old buds in favor of your new non-drinking buds. Good luck and congrats on your sobriety!!!
Tom

Facebook was actually a pretty awesome tool for me as well as this site.  I really only had a couple friends when I came into AA and 1 friend from AA introduced me to Facebook, now there are like 100 friends on there and at least 80 of them are from AA (and it's only been a year).  I also did make some ammends via Facebook because I caught up with my cousins who I needed to apologize to for missing my uncle's funeral while I was caught up in my own BS.  I have since done that in person as well.  I caught up with college roommates who I fell out of touch with because I always blew off friends that weren't in my immediate vicinity because I didn't understand what use they were to me (i guess because they weren't there for me to bitch to and to drink with).  Anyhow, welcome to the board and congrats on the red chip (that is 90 days down here where I'm at).  That is a major accomplishment!  Also, amazing progress on those steps.  I have been very slow at them on paper, even though the steps more or less worked me from living the principles of AA as best I could throughout this year.

P.S.  I also hit my first meeting on day 3 of sobriety and I also found this board at right around 90 days (a little before because the name pinkchip came from being on that 60 day chip at the time).  So...Welcome again and great to have you aboard Aquaman.

Good Morning Aquaman,

All sounds good, just wanted to say WELCOME.

8th Step, wow, you have been working.

Congrats on your time in the Program, and all that you bring is so very positive.  Kudos.

Looking forward to getting to know you.

Toni

Aloha Aquaman!!  One of my heros when I was a youngster.  I only went  under
water to catch fish and there you were fighting crime.  Awesome and then you
never caught any fish...  Now here we are in the same fellowship fighting a
compulsion to drink with an allergy to our bodies.  I would have never guessed.

Seriously welcome.  You are going after this as suggested and "as suggested"
will work well.  Progress not perfection you have all the time in the world; one
day at a...

biggrin Wow, Thanks so much for the welcome! We really are a beautiful community! Tonight my wife and I are going for a quick dinner and a play and she has none of the old apprehension; is he going to get wrecked and embarass me? Is he going to buy a $6 meal and $15 bucks worth of beer? So far so good.

My Sponsor rides me pretty hard on my steps. I love him for it, too. I visualize my obsession as a dormant brain parasite that will never die, but wakes up when I'm in a slippery spot and demands to be fed. Anonymous service deeds & Prayer makes it dormant again.

The Aquaman tag was given to me by a fishing buddy long ago, because when I fish I'm always listening, watching and noticing patterns; letting the fish "speak" to me.

I'll get my red chip Monday. God bless you all!
