I have ten days off from work and head out tomorrow morning on a 7 day, 2000 mile motorcycle trip with four other guys. I skipped this trip last year because I was about a month into sobriety and all but one of the guys was drinking (he's back to it this year). I've got my daily reflections, 24 hr book, big book, a couple grapevines and meeting schedules for the area we are staying.
I know a lot of you will say you would avoid this situation like the plague but I feel like it's the right thing for me to do. Only one of the guys drinks like I used to, the rest are able to drink "normally" and I'm prepared to take my vacation in a different direction geographically if it is to much for me. Drinking won't happen with them during the day and I look forward to the trip that has been organized with some incredible country and stops. Oregon, California and Nevada without hitting freeways. I'm taking my laptop so I can pop in here and plan a different route if need be.
Thanks to everyone for taking part in this site, I don't post often but have been popping in daily for a re-charge.
Sounds like you are prepared to be responsible Jason. You'll not out travel the program or MIP is your laptop holds up. Make sure your HP is on the on the jump seat at all time.
Jason, Have fun! Let the gratitude of your trip help keep you sober during it..... If your like me, these things would not be possible without being sober... One thing that I add to my list when I travel is my cell phone with members of the fellowship in case I need some assistance. Your possibly already thinking this without writing. Just thought I would mention it..... Let us know how it went...
That sounds amazing, Jason & I bet exhilirating with every sober fibre in your body. What a beautiful journey & experience it sounds. I'm excited & pleased for you. It sounds like you're prepared to do whatever it takes to stay sober, even with popping in here when you can. That's awesome. When I've been away from home for a time it has been a Godsend to be able to tap into A.A. wherever I've been. Keep a little talisman for your pocket & remember your prayer ;) Know we're close in God's Love, Danielle x
