61 Days Sober...Still attending A A.

As you know this is my first experience of AA and I'm currently 61 days sober. I still attend my regular meetings every Monday and Friday and I now also go to 2 different meetings on a Wednesday morning and evening.

My meetings don't do sobriety chips and I have to say I'm a litle p****d off with that. I feel like I'm missing out. But I still attend A A and it's keeping me sober. That obsessional thought of I need a drink has virtually disappeared. I've no idea what it is about A A that I like or what it is about it that stops me drinking, I'm not sure I need to know...I just know it's working.

I told you all I had got a sponsor on my first meeting but this turns out not to be the case...he wrote his telephone number by the word sponsor on the paper he gave me and I just assumed he was, but he isn't. It doesn't worry me though, he rings me every week and I can ring him whenever I like. At least I know now I can begin to look for a sponsor and try and find somebody I can connect with...the search begins!

I'm so glad I decided to go to A A. A friend of mine from South Carolina had been slamming it in my face that I needed to try A A after watching me fail at all the other avenues I had pursued to try and become sober.

I attend A A 4 times a week. Alcoholics Anonymous seems to be working for me...I'm so glad I found the rooms.

Keep it simple and light Shaun...You know the program and your bladder works so
far and in time you'll learn more.   I didn't get my first chip until my 16th sober year
on the day I was ready to leave the program.   Try that one for cunning powerful
and baffling.   You want to get pissed?  PM me and lets talk about it.  I know about
a couple hundred ways of going from anxious to pissed to rageful and not one of
them ends in drinking again.    Keep coming back.   smile

Happy 2 month Birthday, Neanderthal.  At first I wasn't keen on the chips, but I did announce it at one and two months.  Last week, the chair forgot to ask for B-days and milestones, and we had moved on before I realized it.  The next week I thought it was a bit anti-climactic, since most there already knew about my three months due to an AA party and some other non-chip meetings.  However, I felt darn! I guess I do want that thing.
So hears a

Big Birthday Shout out for you!!!!!
I clap loudly, right now for real.
Keep on coming back.
I hope to see us both for our next milestone.

Serious Congrats Shaun! That 60 day chip meant a lot to me. Down here that chip just happens to be pink...That is about the time when I found this site. Hence the name - Pinkchip. There is good and bad to not paying attention to the chips. In some ways it has screwed with my head and the fact that I know it's a 24 hour program...a day at a time. On the other hand, I had a lot invested for whatever reason into getting to the next marker. In retrospect, the 30, 60, and 90 meant sooooo much. I posted on here what it felt like to get the whole set of chips and it was cool...but weird realizing there wasn't going to be another one after 9 months (hopefully). So...again...weird and contradictory because I felt proud of the achievement, but AA teaches us to be humble so I was knowing I shouldn't feel that proud because it wasn't all about me. Strangeness. So not having those chips does emphasize more that the program is about 24 hour increments and the daily reprieve you seem to be getting and understanding already. I don't think I grasped that til later cuz I was too busy feening for the next chip. I would suggest sticking around here for anyone from 1 day sobriety to 100 years or whatever. It doesn't replace face to face meetings per say, but it is just like any other group in AA and we are all rooting for you and each other. It's a way of staying connected and keeping fellowship on hand. Also, I shared a lot here in this time and nobody judged me. All my posts where I thought I had everything figured out and so forth were met with loving understanding that this was just the moment I was in as my sobriety developed (and continues to). I haven't always found that in every AA room or forum. So congrats on day 61! Keep stacking them up a day at a time and share the journey with others (for yourself and for them).

Mark

Welcome to MIP, Shaun & Congratulations on 60Days!!! That is amazing. Where about are you in England? I'm in Liverpool & have my home group today (Wednesday Step meet @ Mildmay House). I enjoyed reaching these milestones in early sobriety too. They were good practice for me & helped me gain a continuous length of sobriety until I reached a point where I learned how to keep it Just for Today. It feels great now that that's the case & now milestones are an extra for fun, yeah you guessed it, Just For Today! Keep coming back, brother. Danielle x
