I know the grass beyond the door, the sweet keen smell.
--Dante Gabriel Rossetti

There is a tale about a king who wanted only the wisest man to be his prime minister. When the search narrowed down to three men, he put them to a test. He placed them in a room and installed an impressive lock on the door. Whoever was able to leave the room would be prime minister.

Two began to work out complicated schemes to get out. The third sat and thought. Finally, the third man walked to the door and turned the handle. The door had been unlocked all the time.

Sometimes we complicate a simple program and don't trust that recovery is there for us. The door of recovery is unlocked, and all we have to do is turn the handle to enter into a new and joyous life.

Today let me be willing to open the door.

For nothing can be sole or whole that has not been rent.
--W. B. Yeats

The maple out front is young and healthy, but it grows in the shape of a Y. Neighborhood tree experts have warned that as it grows, it will split in half as the weight of the two main branches pull down against each other. One of these two beautiful branches, already lush with new leaves, must be cut. But once pruned, the remaining branch will straighten as it reaches for the sun. It will grow faster, and the whole tree will live many years longer--all by cutting it back today.

Sometimes we are like this tree. We go in too many directions, and can't seem to do any one thing well. When this happens, we need to give something up, to choose which direction we want and stick with it. The results will be well worth the price.

What is holding me back from growth?

How yu Doin Rick Bud??   Too many directions? Yup. Ive done that sober, and instead of a solid tree, got a bunch of branches that became a shrub.:)

Had to cut a few of those branches off. Today there are two branches growing in my life.

Sobriety, and helping others---and one other big package goal for the future. Keeps it all kinda simple. Its also great to be able to look forward to the tomorrows and acheiving those goals, one day at a time.

Sobriety gives us hope--through the 12 steps we learn to have faith--then we learn to walk the walk.

Onward my Freind, and keep those cards and letters comming.:)   Have a great weekend!!
