She's still drinking, and yesterday she said "You sound just like my dad!" Her dad is also an alcoholic, and a Vietnam veteran, who stayed sober for 21 years before going back out. He's back in the program now.
Next time she says it, I'll have to thank her for the compliment! I mean really, me with 5 and a half months, sounding like someone who managed to stay sober for 21 years? What else could that be but a compliment?

Sorry you wife is continueing to drink, but you do not live with her, and she has her own path, who knows, she might doing some thinking about how she sees you today. A Program of Attraction, rather than Promotion.

I would take it as a compliment too. She's likely referring to you living by the principles of AA now and that you've allowed them to work change within you (as you know I'm guessing). I'm also figuring she had large doses of hearing these sayings and principles from her time with her dad in his sobriety. To an outsider (from AA) we would appear somewhat brainwashed and they resent it because they either don't need it, can't have it, or aren't ready for it. Has she ever been to a meeting? She now has 2 important people in her life in recovery so maybe that could be a tool in "planting the seed" as they say. You can't make her embrace AA but if she was to see it in action she might understand it better. Of course, with her history it sounds like Alanon or ACOA could be more helpful. I'm not sure if she drinks like you or I did so I dunno about AA. Either way, it would seem that if she understood a bit more about the program she might get something she needs (for herself) but also will gain a greater understanding of some really important people in her life. If you attend meetings at a clubhouse, often times Alanon meetings are going on in the rooms right next door at the same time also. Just a thought.
