I started a list today..

Every day I wake up to this horribly messy house.  And a horribly messed up life.  And I get depressed very quickly.  I've tried making lists of things to do, in priority order,  and then working through them, but that never works.  At least not for long.  I might get some of the things done, but never that many and it feels like just so much work.  And there are ALWAYS things on the list that I never get to, and I feel bad about it, and all I can really focus on are the things I DIDN'T get done.

So today I started a new list, but I did it differently.  I made a list of everything that I've ALREADY accomplished today, that I might not otherwise have done.  I've only been up for 4 hours, and I already have a list of 14 things!  I kinda like this idea, it just popped into my head and now at the end of the day I will not be able to sigh heavily and say, "Well once again I got nothing done today (or hardly anything)".

Here's my list so far:

THINGS I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED TODAY (that I might not have done):

1. Started this journal
2. Went to a meeting
3. Stopped by my wife's work for a hug
4. Went to chiropractor appointment
5. Re-committed to learning to work on computers (via email to my brother)
6. Bid on some ebay items
7. Requested a total for 2 ebay items that I want to combine shipping for
8. Made shelves for my tools in garage
9. Got breakfast for my daughter instead of making her fend for herself
10. Put duct tape on my wart evileye
11. Said morning prayer
12. Said "set-aside" prayer
13. Read a couple pages out of "As Bill Sees It"
14. Only had 1 cup of coffee (so far)
15. Posted this list on AA forum smile

Edit:

16. Uploaded my new avatar biggrin

This could be the start of something good!

Hey FS,
I keep a list as well. I start a list of things to do, but I also add things I've done. The more you do it, the better you get it organized.

Morning Glenn,

I use a list everyday, love how it take it out of my thinking, and on paper. I like to mentally prioritize, make the Musts on the top, the Probablies in the middle, and the Maybies on the bottom.

At the end ot the day, before throwing it out, just transfer what was not crossed off. and usually the maybies turn into the Must Dos for this new day.

Also make a priority out of keeping my perfectionistic standard far away, and just feel good about what I did accomplish, focus only on that part.

Yesterdays list consisited of some hard stuff to complete, well for me, and felt so good last night know they were.....done, done, done. Think I sleep better too when I utilize the list everyday.

Great work Glenn
Hugs, Toni

Good Lord!!!! You surely do get a lot accomplished!!

You know, I have many times here posted about the very same thing, thinking I am not getting enough done and getting depressed. Looking around and seeing my house a mess, and feeling like every effort is futile. Feeling like I am doomed to never ever be able to "get it together" and function at the capacity that I perceive others to nbe funcitoning at. I have gotten a ton of suggestions over time here, but I absolutely LOVE the list you made!!!!!! I am no longer going to make a list of what I SHOULD do... it is the same thing every week, and all I have to do is look around me! (DUH). I am going to make YOUR kind of list, to keep from feeling down on myself and blue.

I shall start right now!!

This week, I have so far:
-cooked a steak dinner for hubby
-done 5 loads of laundry
-hung up/put away 2 loads (LOL)
-beent the grocery store twice
-worked 2 full days and 2 half days
-picked up a vehicle from repair shop
-dropped off rental vehicle
-called various insurance companies, police department, etc.
-got a manicure
-detailed my car, cleaning aluminum wheels, leather, carpeting and all
-spent an evening on the phone with Sprint and getting replacement phones soon now (ugh)
-got to my home group
-just went out for ice cream. :o)

Thanks so much, I feel like I have done a LOT for a person who used to get NOTHING but drinking done 24/7. I needed this!!!

(((((HUGS)))))

Now if I can just keep making that list.  Didn't do it yesterday, even though I did get some things done like cleaning the kitchen.  That was a big one.  I'll go write myself a list as soon as I post this.  Glad it helped you!

Glenn

P.S.  Oh yeah, I forgot the number one thing on my list:  Didn't drink!
