July 4, 2009 - My reunification Day

There are some days that hold a very special place in my recovery. I about can fill a calendar with thoughts why that day is special and how it has affected my life in recovery. None of it would be possible without admitting and accepting that I am an alcoholic. That day took place on September 4, 1994.

Other days that hold a place in my recovery is the day my mom died, the day my dad died, the day I admitted I was addicted to my ex-wife, as well as the day I admitted that I am a child of an alcoholic. The list goes on and on, now with another date added to it. July 4, 2009 is my reunification day.

After an eight year separation from my daughter we were reunited on this day. Not only was I reunited with her, but I got to see how much she has grown and changed into a young lady that any father would be proud to say this is my daughter.

Through recovery, I've learned to expect nothing and accept everything. It was with this attitude that we met and all I prayed for some form of positive change. And I got a lot more then I ever dreamed possible. If you'd like to read more about this very special day in my life and see some pictures, click on the photo.

Thanks for your support and prayers, there is no doubt in my mind that they were answered....

Dave

Hey Dave,
I did not get time earlier to tell you how happy I am for you. Many of us lose people we love to this disease. So many times it is unfair. This seemed like an unfair loss for you for so many years. It is beyond words how great this story is.

Thanks Tom...

You are right it is beyond words. It would take way to long to go into all the details as to why things happened the way they did. Which is why I write books. LOL

I do know for a fact, that none of this would have happened if I drank or went back to drinking. There are still more bridges to rebuild but this one was a start.

I do believe all fences will be mended in His time - not mine. And to me that means it may not happen in this lifetime, but I do believe it will happen.

And for it to be successful I need to be healthy and that means be sober...

A couple of reasons

http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=42735&p=3&topicID=28133984

first it was my drinking, then her insanity
