would have won American Idol every time when he was 8 yrs old. Despite his issues in the last ten years, what a special talent and force he was for 20+ years. His death and impact is Elvis-like (in my opinion). I was talking with my friend and he said something which I think is true: Anyone who grew up with the 70's or 80's and denies liking at least one MJ song is lying. A random thread i know, but had to do it.
My 2 favorite 70s people died. Yes, I had the famous Farrah poster too! Her son Redmond has had a lengthy drug problem, hope he finds his way. I loved MJ since the first time I saw him on Ed Sullivan. We here know what substance abuse can do and couple that with abusive parents, the outcome is inevitable. RIP.

the outcome is not inevitable, just common and sad. whats horrible is the insulating property that money has. everyone around him agreed with and enabled him for the money. I remember listening to the jacksons in the 60's. I was a huge music fan (still am) from age 2 on. We had many radio stations in the nations capital during that time and I skipped the top 40 programs in favor of the black music stations that played motown, solid gold, soul, and blues. I also listen to the hard rock stations.

Not to insult the dead...but I think it's not so off topic. Both of them seemed plagued by drug problems. I did reflect on how neither could have really gone to AA or NA because of their celebrity status. I pretty much know that's the case for MJ and he did become a recluse which is what they say is the worst thing an addict can do besides drink or use (isolate). I guess that's part of why we hear about celebrities checking into rehab 100 times and also why so many of them die from overdoses despite having all the money in the world. The program would be so hard to work with zero anonymity. So today, I'm grateful I'm not famous.

Just wanted to say that no matter what Micheal Jackson weather anyone agreed to it or not he was human like the rest of us. I didn't agree with the topics of what was on the news about Micheal either.
But there was something about his music that kept him in the lime light for all these years, I too grew up with the Jackson 5 along with many others. And still enjoyed Micheals music.
I too grew up with Farrah Fawcett, and that was one of my favourites in the 70's Charlies Angels was a regular program of mine.... when I was little.
My prayers go to both family's and they will be missed but not forgotten.
Love the post! I am soo in mourning at the loss of my fav performer!!! Loved the music and listen to it on my way to work to boost me up!!! Had to laugh: Daughter in trouble and I was giving her a piece of my mind: She replied, "I know youre in mourning over michael but you dont need to take it out on me!!!" Haha smarty pants!!

Michael Jackson was the first musician when I was young and growing up, where my little girlfriends and I would actually play the records over and over, and DANCE. We all got our parents to buy us parachute pants with zippers all over, and we could be seen wearing a MJ glove that we had glued rinestones all over.
I have no opinion on the sex-abuse allegations, all I know is that he was filthy rich and therefore a target for lawsuits, and also that he was found "not guilty" in a court of law on all counts. God help anyone who possibly was injured, and God help HIM, if it was all untrue. But that's all between him, the defendants and God.
He was a bit "wierd", but who in Hollywood isn't. All I know is that he was unbelievably talented, and his music and his showmanship was instrumental in making my junior-high and highschool years what they were. It was a neat era to grow up in, with the dawn of MTV (which doesn't even PLAY videos anymore, for the most part!!) with him and Madonna (another wierdo.. LOL), Cindy Lauper, etc.
I like what Pinkchip had to say about money insulating addicts. So true. Deepak Chopra has been on some news programs, as a very good friend of Michael's, exposing the sickness and codependency of these Hollywood Doctors, and I commend him for it.

Lisa Marie Presley posted this. What she says is humanizing, rather than all of the frenetic stuff going for the public lately. It is def relating to chemical dependencies and all of the rest of it many of us are far too familiar with. Real sad.
