Sober drunk getting screwed over by DRUNK drunk

Long story short, the guy across the street hit one of our cars which was parked on the street in the middle of the night Friday night, after coming home from his band's "gig". I have witnessed this guy accidentally drive all the way up onto the sidewalk trying to park late at night.

And although the police have photos from the next morning, of paint chips and rubber all over his vehicle, he is trying to deny it. LOL  Just makes more busy-work for me I guess, but sure glad I am not doing that crap anymoe, eh????

Hmmm, did you see this happen or are you assuming it was him? All you can prove is that his car hit the other car, not who was driving it. (from what you have psoted.)

He already went in to the police station (would not come to the door when police were here), and admitted he was driving that night, but said his girlfriend was behind him the whole way home and didn't see him hit it. He tore the whole front bumper off. The police have photos (and so do I) of HIS bent-back wheel well, and my paint chips and rubber all stuck on his vehicle. Nice. He had parallel parked in front of me.

Thank God, I have insurance, so does he, but we will be sans second car, unless I go rent one on my own until this gets sorted out. Just a pain in the butt.

sorry to hear that Jonijoni. It reminds me of your story last year about the nurse at work that stole the pain pills from work and got fired, and how it was a reminder to you to stay sober. I had a drunk for a next door neighbor for about 12 years, and was confronted by him on a few occasions. He finally died of liver disease.

it'll work out ok then. You have insurance. Can you claim for a replacement hire car on the insurance?

Hi Bill. Yup. got a "rental car" today. Just letting my insurance deal with it right now, until the legal matter is settled.

It absolutely does remind me though, of yet another of the things I do not have to worry about being sober. If I get into an accident or fender-bender sober, I do not have to worry about legal problems. I drove so many times in the past drunk, and/or without a license or even insurance. These things make me grateful also, that I at least HAVE transportation. That is more than a lot of people have.

Joni, I admire your attitude.  I can totally see myself being like "WTF! Why does this happen to me?! I'm sober now and promises are supposed to be coming true!"

AA is thick with irony- there's no escaping it. A Buddy of mine was posting on FB all evening about his neighbors partying and making noise, making drunken asses of themselves. I wasn't the only one who posted, "Oh- the irony!!!" ;)

My step grandpa was a heavy duty alc, wore a badge and had more bad karma than hitler. He was sober less than 2 years when killed by a drunk driver.
