So I went to a family party with my mom and dad today. There was lots of alcohol (beer and hard liquor). Some how I was able to refrain from drinking any of it. It wasn't easy.

good job! before I go into situations like that, I ask my higher power to go with me and help keep me sober.

Nice work!  I had an incident this week myself.  I work at a pharmacy that is inside of a grocery store.  We have full alcohol section.  I have to walk past it everyday.  Usually I don't even give it a second glance.  But, the other day the Goldshlager just stuck out like a soar thumb :)  I actually got a few butterflys in my stomach, thinking of how just a couple shots would make me feel.

It was like, whoa, a wake up call.  This isn't easy.  I have to get my head out of the clouds and focus : )

Thankyou for sharing your triumphs with us, Gurls. We do this together. I remember my early days when every drinking temptation I came away from sober felt truly miraculous. I'm kinda used to it now though cannot afford to & do not lose gratitude. It is true that we gain the power from every temptation we resist. You gave yours to your Higher Power. Well Done. Thankyou for sharing your experience, strength & hope with me too. Just for Today, Danielle x

OK, so if I don't see it, I won't be tempted and if I do see it I will. For me, there has to be an element of drama mixed in. First, I need to make eye contact, then engage my mind to focus on the product, this likely evokes memories, warm feelings etc. By this time, I have started to romantisize about a relationship between me and the particular "beverage" The next thing I know, in a matter of 2 minutes, I have created a whole movie in my mind, or scenerio, complete with a wonderful outcome (not worth is with a negative one) Well, I find it easier to see stuff, quickly recognize it and do not engage it at all, this prevents me from being drawn into the illusion. I don't fight it off but rather engage in something else of my choosing. No memories, no feelings, no emotions, no event, onto something else...Works for me every time.
