My dad is a retired US Army Col. He did 4 tours of Vietnam voluntarily and he's the adjatent (sp) for the DAV in his home town.
He's survived Vietnam, being shot at, POW for 2.5 yrs, my mother () many, many health issues, the latest was removing part of his left lung just this past Monday and he STILL has time for others in need.
My father is my hero also, in sooooo many ways.
Thanks for the post.

Wow, so many great people to remember, so many of them our beloved veterans. My gramps, pictured above, was 35 when the War broke out, and not being drafted, so he volunteered. He was Staff Sergeant, and earned 3 Bronze Stars, the Silver Star for uncommon valor, Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster for a second wounding. He served in Patton's 3rd Army, Battle of the Bulge, etc. His is the most highly decorated in medals at the local small-town cemetery here in Ohio, and I am so proud of him.
I went out with my Al Anon aunt/mom today and planted flowers at the cemetery, and cleaned off the beautiful bronze plaque they Veteran's Admin. placed on the back of his tombstone. I loved seeing all the flags there. I am so proud to be an American, no matter what politicians are doing or not doing in the present age. These guys are and were the best. From WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, and now our soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. God LOVE them all!
Dad was in the Navy for 4 years, on the USS America Aircraft Carrier, during Vietnam.
Love my dad too! And thank God, he is still here enjoying life here on this planet. :o)
