Hello everybody...My name is Nick and i recently had a post on here asking for speakers in my area to help me out on filling my positions needed to fill my schedule.. Well i got some good feed back on here but nobody in my area I did make like two calls early the next morn and told some other people about my problem that i had and by noon the same day my phone was ringing off the hook!!! Fellow drunks from all over the Dallas/Ft. Worth area were calling me and ready to help me out. I have only been sober since July of 2008 and i am 27 yrs old and the things that this program have done for me are crazy....I made my living selling drugs until I got sober and made a lot of money doing it. The money is what blinded me from the fact that I was suffering from alcoholism for so long. I thought everything in my life was fine just cause i had money. Lil did i know my life was a wreck!! I had a run in with the law and shortly after managed to pull a day or two without taking a drink and i looked back on my life and where it was going and decided that i needed to do something different!! I got in with some good people who are long time members of the program and decided to turn my will and my life over to the care of god and have not looked back! They showed me a better way of living and i got a sponsor and we worked the steps together. Today I am a very active and sober member of my group and spend time going to treatment centers and sharing my experience strength and hope with other alcoholics and addicts. I was recently elected on our service board at my group as program chair person and very excited about it. I will have 10 months sober on Monday ( God willing and one day at a time) and i would not trade my worst day sober for my best day not sober for the world! The way God has intervened in my life is amazing! So thanks for all the positive replies to my previous post and still if there is anyone in the area interested in speaking just let me know GOD BLESS!!
Aloha Nick...and congradulations on the time. You share remarkable changes that I know only come from wanting it and working for it as suggested. Don't forget to just stand out in the sunlight and smile for awhile. That is doing service to you as you do service for others. I support your recovery. Keep doing what you're doing as it seems to be working great!!
Great story and congrats. Keep that enthusiasm going. Sounds like you're doing all the right stuff to insure your continued sobriety. You're certainly a model for success and a great example/ inspiration. A word of caution. Make sure that you are creating a well balanced life for yourself outside of AA. I've seen a lot of people with a year or too that we super busy in AA (we call them "Mr./Mrs. AA" lol) and neglecting other aspects of their life, then one day, they were gone. It's likely that they gave so much and one day became resentful about it realizing that they still had no life. Not saying that's the case with you. I would put involvement with the fellowship outside of AA, and developing relationships and routines as just as important to the service work within. Thanks for joining our board and please continue to post as we have a lot of new folks here as well as those in their first couple years.
