AA Meetings on cruise ship
Permalink

Hello everyone, I've been gone a few days, held captive on a cruise ship that was headed to Mexico. The first thing I did was look at the list of meetings onboard the ship, I found a "Friends of Bill W." I was releived and couldn't wait. Well, I got there and waited and waited, no meeting, no one showed up, I thought there has to be someone like me on a ship carrying over 3,000 people. Well, long story short and on the second to the last day I found one in another room. I tell ya, and I'm being honest, it was a challenge for me not to drink, we were stuck on the ship due to the Swine Flu pendemic, they wouldn't let us land in any ports, it's a long story but I remained sober!!! Thanks to AA.

Hi Geraldo,

I've been on 4 cruises and had various results with regards to meetings. Usually there would be at least one other person, but the first and last days were slim. I also had the experience of the room being moved. I'm not a gambler so I didn't have to be offered drinks there, and naturally stayed out of bars so I've never had any temptation to drink on a cruise ship. Of course I didn't take my first cruise till I had 8 years so if someone has less than a year, it's probably not a good idea to go on one. It's also not a good idea to go with someone who will be drinking and likewise better to go with someone that won't be.

Hi Dean,

It was nearly impossible to avoid anyone driking or bars, this was their newest ship and just about every place I went there was drinking. The people I was with do not drink thank God!! I did end up helping this poor gilr whom was wasted, she couldn't find her dinner party and she was out of control, someone called security on her and they thought I was with her, it took a while to explain to the officer that I was just trying to help.

Well Done, Jerry! That's Awesome you stayed sober. I find the Big Book helps me to stay on the AA beam when I've been away from meetings. It's really nice that you were able to help another drunk while you were there. That was the first thing Bill W did when he was out of town & needed to stay sober. I feel an affinity with other drunks & it's sad but it's also good to be in a position to help now. Keep up the Goodwork. I hope you're swineflu clear! Danielle x

And essentially, everyone on the message board is "out of town"  smile.gif

Hi I just came off an 11 day cruise from Miami to London and 7 of the days we were at sea
The first couple of days I was real squirly but I spent my time in the cabin praying , it was a good experience for me because I had nothing to help me escape myself and it became a spiritual experience
I was blessed with meetings there were about 15 of us each day it really became like a home group
How cool you were able to help another alcoholic way to go that's the best way to get outta my head
I just joined this forum and I'm looking forward to meeting people
