I can't beleive the caring I feel coming from your replies. It's hard to accept that people really care about me when you don't know me. When i drink that is lkely a good thing. I have gone to a meeting each day and am finding that it gives me strength. This happened last time but I thought I was stonger than alcohol thanks to a few months of meetings and could do it alone. HAHA My goal is to go to a meeting every day and make it a part of my life. I also have found that when I stopped praying and got all caught up in curves life throws you I lost control and felt like I was caught in a spin I couldn't stop. Can you help me with the first step on this road? I'm willing to work hard I just don't know where to begin. Thanks again for throwing me a life line. Julia

It sounds like youve allready made a beginning Julia.:)

You took your hands off the steering wheel, and wound up in the ditch. I did it too.

You got the AA car back on the road, and youre keeping your hands on the wheel. Not too tightly because your hands will get numb, but "easy does it" "keep things simple" "try to avoid pot holes"

Keep the car full of AA gas--cause if it runs out, it wont run on yesterdays fumes.:)

I went to 365 meetings in one year and then slackened off. you can guess the rest.

The AA car was also draggin a bunch of tin cans behind it, and they were makin one hell of a noise, so I had to go to step 4 and 5, and get rid of them, before any peace and serenity set in.

One day at a time--its a lifetime thing.

Through the steps we learn to change us, a bit at a time--we forgive ourselves and quit kickin our butts, and truck on with faith.

Ive said it before--We are all from different moulds, but we are riding in the same boat with a few leaks here and there. You have a good day!!

Smell the roses, and we will try to take care of the thorns a few at a time.:)

Right now You should be concerned with going to meetings, resume prayer (since you've done that before), get a sponsor and take suggestions.  That is about it...Keep it simple.  Do the next right thing.  You need a sponsor as much as this board is helpful it is only one of many tools to use in between meetings and phone calls. A sponsor can help you work the steps; like the first step that you asked for help with.  You need people who will get to know you who will know what to suggest to you.

We on this board can't know you on that level.  We can only tell you our view by what you write.  Just keep it simple and do the above and things should fall into place.  god bless.

Try the 3rd step. It looks like u have accepted the first 2 steps. U could get a 12 and 12 and start reading the third step. The first 3 are very inportant in early soberity. A suggestion would be to read the third every day for a while or actually the first 3. To me it's all about GOD and turning my will over. I wish u the best

1.We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, that our lives had become unmanageable.

2.came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

  • 3.Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

The above posts say it all, so I won't repeat them. I'm just glad you are doing it. I had a hard time asking someone to be my sponsor, I knew who I wanted but was afraid to ask her. I finally asked if she would be my "temporary" sponsor and she said yes and started me on the steps. She's still my sponsor, 4 yrs later.

Glad you've joined us as we trudge the happy road!

    Love, cheri

Life does throw curves doesn't it! I'm sorry about your dog. I understand how you feel because we had to put our 10 yr old dog to sleep about 4 weeks ago. I feel so bad and tend to push it out of my mind every time her face creeps in. She was my best friend - always knew when I needed a head on my lap and a big kiss. We are planning on doing alot of camping this year so I'm hoping the serenity of my surroundings will quiet my mind. My husband had a spinal injury last June which has changed our lives forever. The upside is that we were told he could lose the use of his legs as well and I have never prayed so hard in my life as during that surgery. I gave his care over to God and even the doctors couldn't believe his legs are fine. Some of the plumbing doesn't work but we can deal with that. I am so blessed and I can't believe how I have come so close to losing it all. I am so grateful for another chance to get it right and this forum has made a big difference to me. I's wonderful not to feel so alone even when I can't get to a meeting. I gave my 12 and 12 book to someone who I thought needed it more than me (how arogant of me) so I guess I better go get another one. Have a great day. Julia
