Well, I have a little over 17 months sober and although I have been asked in the past to give a lead (not able to because of my work schedule) the time is drawing near...I am giving my first lead next tues at my womens home group!!!! My hubby says it isnt a real lead, or 1/2 a lead because its in front of all women!!! lol

I was going to take a moment to try and put in to words: what it was like, how I got here and what it is like today.......

Unfortunatley duty calls and I really need to run.....
I thought if I sat a moment and tried to put a bit of my story on here, it might make it easier to do when the time comes.....After all, who better to share with then my MIP buddies....
So, soon I will take a moment to quiet my mind, pray and focus on what my higher power might want me to share! Oh arent we all so excited!!!! hahahahaha

More to come later!!!
Your procrastinating friend laurie!!!!!!!! lol

Aw, you will do great. 17 mos sober, you are content and quite capable to share all you need to. Best wishes, maybe write a little outline here first? How long do you have to talk for?

don't forget about the imagining that the audience is naked lol.
Telling a joke right off the bat usually works for me, particularly the one about
the widow of the alcoholic at the funeral joke. Pm me and I'll send it to you.

Goodluck with your lead & your next few 1Days@aTime, Laurie. Leads are great excitement & stress. Cheap thrills you could say lol I'm only kidding. I've got one tomorrow & I always feel like it's a challenge in order to justify my existance in A.A. cuz my bottom was relatively high but I know that's just my head. I'm no good at following formulas so all you can do is Trust in your HP, Let Go & Let God. I'm always surprised with what comes back, especially when people don't respond to anything I've said & share about themselves ;) lol That one's very humbling.. 'What? It's Not All About Me??' lol Giving my gratitude always helps me, even when I've been struggling & you've got sooo much of that :D Enjoy, Lady. We can compare notes over the other side ;) Love & Luck, Danielle xxx

Oh what the heck, I post it.

A woman went to a funeral, in support of her high school friend, whom she hadn't seen in awhile.  Her  husband had died.  After the ceremony at the cemetary was over,  she walked up to her friend and asked "what happened to Fred".  The widow replied  "it was the alcohol, it finally got him".  The friend responded "Why didn't he just go to AA?".  The widow answered angrily  "He Wasn't THAT Bad!"

HAHAHA, awesome! I just did a "talk" a few weeks ago for a friend's 19th birthday. I had almost a month to prepare but kept it simple. I took 45 minutes and had everyone in the place come to me and commend me afterwards. That made me feel sooo good! I did'nt want to do what I see so many do, a drunkalog!!! Dontcha hate those! They serve no purpose. I just kept it to what it was like, what happened and what it is like now, just like the BB says. A joke or something funny to start is always a good idea too, I think. I wasn't nervous at all during mine, I thought I would be though. I think it is an excellent oppoortunity and I was very honoured to be asked to do it.

I did my main share tonight & there was a newcomer too so I shared for her. Had More About Alcoholism read out from the Big Book & then told her my story from childhood into my teens about how I felt & what happened when I drank & then how my life was as a result, how I came to my bottom & then into A.A. where I learned how to live sober & have a life again. It all flowed really lovely & I'd been terrified earlier in the day, obsessing a little & thinking on what to say. Some sober thoughts came through like reminding me I don't even know who'll be there & that I probably wouldn't say anything I'd already thought of lol On my way there I prayed for God to be in my mind, in my ears, in my eyes, in my mouth & in my heart. I think it worked & helped me lots too! :D How'd yours go Laurie? ;) Goodluck Gurl :) Danielle x

Hi Lani

Just wanted to say that I think you'll be fine and well I'm sure it will go well for you
Good luck heading your way.

And of course we all go through that on writing stuff down, and when the time comes to speak well we realize that we did better than we thought and it's good that you feel nervous.

Hugs

Hey lani, make a list of 10 things that you can talk about (5 minutes each) and put it on the podium. The preamble, readings, and ending will eat up 15 minutes.
