Me???? Jury Duty???? LOL

Yes, 'tis true, there is apparently a USEFUL reason for me to be in a courthouse these days.

Called in each night this past week, and was almost HOPING to get on the "trial of the century" to escape some work stuff this week (I know, nice motives). But alas, I found that on Tuesday's appearance for jury duty, I ended up knowing the defendent from past seedy days in using, and was dismissed from serving as a juror on the burglary trial as a result of my bringing this to light. I had to wonder if there WAS a trial in my county where I would not know at least one person involved in some questionable non-law abiding behavior!

And thanks only to having a Higher Power for guidance, found through the program, it was not me in trouble this time. For I am eligible too, if I stray and were to pick up one drink. Makes one shudder to think of how quickly a life can turn around if the silly notion to imbibe is followed through.

I am planning an AA extravaganza this weekend, and in the coming week. I also scheduled 2 vacation days for myself, so that I will have a 4 day weekend to do some uncluttering in my home and therefore, my mind and spirit. Reading a great book, called "It's All Too Much... Living Richer with Less". The book explains how our society has become one where THINGS tend to take control of us. And that we can live to greater peace, joy and capacity by letting go of STUFF, and opening up our space for more opportunities for real living and healing, instead of dreading what we know lurks behind closed doors. Oh, to become a minimalist!! (not in this lifetime, unfortunately)

Just checking in, and hoping that all my rowdy friends here had a peaceful, sober week full of learning and growing.

((((((((many huggs)))))))

It's funny, I bragged for many many years about never being called for jury duty and a couple years ago it happened. It was a Federal case. There was a questionaire about mental or physical condition that would prevent me from fulfilling the duty. I wrote a paragraph on the back that said that I had many prejudices, and that I didn't trust the police, attorneys, or the judicial system and that they don't want me to be on a jury. I never heard from them again. smile.gif
