5) no thought that someday we can drink 'normally' (that's my purspose for regular meetings, to be reminded, I have that built in forgettor and my disease wants to get me alone and convince me I can drink 'normally')
6) no control once that first drink is consumed
7) willingness, honesty and an open mind
8) selfish and self centeredness ("we THINK" - gotta love Bill W. for that one).

5. If we are planning to stop drinking, there must be what?
page 33, paragraph 1, line 91
no reservation of any kind, nor any lurking notion, that someday we will be immune to alcohol.
6. What is the distinction between the alcoholic and the non-alcoholic?
page 44, paragraph 1, line 4
If, when you honesty want to, you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when drinking, you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic.
More than I thought ---- guess that BB study every Friday IS paying off! I didn't have to look up one answer, so far......WOW! Guess this stuff really does stick when I pay attention and am willing to listen to learn..I'm certainly no BigBook Thumper! .......Thanks, for posting these, Jane, it has helped me today.

9. ...The actual or potential alcoholic, with hardly an exception, will be absolutely unable to stop drinking on the basis of what? page 39, paragraph 1, line 5
10. Step 10 advises that we continue to watch for what? page 84, paragraph 2, line 9
11. The alcoholic has a daily reprieve from drinking contingent upon what?
9. The actual or potential alcoholic, with hardly an exception, will be absolutely unable to stop drinking on the basis of Self-Knowledge. This is a point we wish to emphasize & re-emphasize, to smash home upon our alcoholic readers as it has been revealed to us out of bitter experience.
10. Continue to watch for Selfishness, Dishonesty, Resentment & Fear. When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them. We discuss them with someone immediately and make amends quickly if we have harmed anyone. Then we resolutely turn our thoughts to someone we can help. Love & Tolerance of others is our code.
11. We are not cured of Alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition. Every day is a day when we must carry the vision of God's will into all of our activities "How can I best serve Thee? Thy will (not mine) be done" These are thoughts which must go with us constantly. We can exercise our will power along this line all we wish. It is the proper use of the will.
12. The central fact of our lives today is the absolute certainty that our Creator has entered into our hearts and lives in a way which is indeed miraculous. He has commenced to accomplish those things for us which we could never do by ourselves.
Phew! I enjoyed that, thanks Jane lol The more & more I read this book the more & more I'm astounded by its wisdom & guidance. I am grateful for the people who first started this out & wrote it all down the learnings of their experience so that we could all learn of our malady & pass it on. If I didn't have an insight, belief or faith that has been proved by my experience time & time again I'd be out there still drinking & wondering what on earth was happening to me? Why was I continuously picking up that drink when it was in my heart to stop! I'm glad I know what my condition is so that I can do as others have done to stay sober.
For anyone who is new to A.A. & unfamiliar with relying upon a Higher Power to help you stay sober or live with some peace & contentment, remember, it is a God or Higher Power of your own understanding. It comes & grows with time & the truth of your own experience will be what you share with others. It's an amazing & loving program & I'm glad to have the stability it offers me so that I can live my life starting over each day with ever more new opportunities to live in daily discipline. It is a good life. I am grateful to be sober. Danielle x
