This is a good time to grasp the moment. No need to regret the past and what you did or didn't do; no need to contemplate the future for what "misfortunes" lay ahead. Simplify, simplify. Do you have laundry to wash? Can you fix a meal or call someone and go to a meeting? You can do that today.
I remember that it's a "cinch by the inch And a trial by the mile."

The source of a true smile is an awakened mind. Smiling helps you approach the day with gentleness and understanding.
I really enjoy this, Jane. That is one quote I have never heard before "cinch by the inch". Boy is that ever true. Everything I ever accomplish, sobriety included, looks so daunting when I look at the big picture. A step at a time and a moment, a task, at a time is such a better way to tackle anything in life.
We alcoholics tend to magnify and fear anything having to do with change, and hard work on ourselves. No wonder we resist these things at times, we make a mountain out of a mole hill quite well. We are in fact experts at this. I know I sure am.
What freedom we have when we can learn how to live for the present, and take a more reasonable approach. I like the saying "Easy Does It, But Do It."
Good to be back to reading these things again this morning. I have been so wrapped up in serious problems among friends, family and work, and even though I am home sick today, I cherish the ability to just be still for this 24 hours.
