Loss of Bladder Control

Has anyone else had bladder control problems when drinking?  Whenever I drink a lot and go to sleep, I do not wake up when I have to go to the bathroom..this has been happening a lot lately.  Am I the only one?

Welcome to MIP, Youllneverknow. This, fortunately, only happened to me once & I was so bewildered with it at the time.. I thought it was the cat! But, I have heard so many times in the rooms of AA that this is common for many alcoholics. I have no doubt at all that had I continued in my drinking & as my disease progressed so would have these 'side effects'. Is there anything else you would like to ask about? Keep coming back. You are most welcome here, Danielle x

I had no problems in the night, but actually my bladder would hurt during the day and I frequently had UTI symptoms for several days at a time.  I later found out this was due to massive dehydration because I was drinking alcohol all night and coffee all day to get rid of my hangovers.  This left me drinking zero water so basically it started to hurt just to go to the bathroom and I felt that I had to go all the time even though I didn't.  This even continued somewhat into the first month until I trained myself to drink more water.  And I am a guy so I thought this was pretty unusual to have what felt like repeated urinary tract infections.

Welcome youllneverknow!

I'm sure I did, but what I recall the most, is passing out or blacking out and waking up in strange places or beds.

Thanks to A.A., I know where I am when I fall asleep and where I am when I wake up.  Oh!  And today my bladder will wake me up if I need to go.  Sometimes more often than I'd like.  hmm

Hope you'll come back!

Hi YNK,

Wetting the bed is not an uncommon 'bodily accident' caused by drinking to excess. There's no end to the problems alcoholic drinking can cause, of course. I have heard many people sharing in the rooms of AA how wetting the bed happened to them when they were still drinking.

Please keep posting, won't you?

Take care,

Carol

There's a difference between 'going to sleep' and "passing out' just like there's a difference between 'waking up" and "coming to"!

I've not heard of many bedwetters, but I've sure heard of lots of pants shitters! Think we got one or 2 around here?!

Lay off the booze and see what happens........

It used to never happen, then it happened once and I freaked out and didn't believe/accept it. The past week, it has happened every single time I drank and passed out. I am trying to stop at least for a while.

Yes, it used to happen to me sometimes when I was drinking. Those were the moments when I would think 'this has to stop'.
