Why do bad things happen? Understanding life No one has been able to explain why pain and misfortune must be part of the human condition. Bad things can and do happen to everybody, and sometimes there's no way to explain it. Even in sobriety, AA members have misfortunes---times when it appears that God is hiding. We even hear members share such experiences at meetings. Many of us have found ways to use misfortunes constructively, however, by seeing how the program helps us deal with it. In some cases---but not all---we even learn that a misfortune was a disguised blessing. Most important, by using the program, we are eliminating the drinking that has been the cause of many misfortunes in our lives. That alone makes our immediate world a much better place for everyone. My life today can be both easy and hard. It gives me great comfort to know that I am not making conditions worse for myself and others.

No kidding!! I whine and complain about things, "misfortunes" in life, yet a bunch of innocent non-alcoholics in a Mumbai hotel were killed last week for no good reason.
99.9999% of my own "misfortunes" when I drank were irresponsible, childish stupidities that I cried about.... and blamed the universe for, when it was MY FAULT, MY DOING. Those "misfortunes" paled in comparison to what others have to go through. Yet they were larger than life to me.
So glad that this program eventually gets us off the pity pot and gets us busy doing the RIGHT things, for ourselves and others!
Thanks for the share, I needed a dose of reality today!

Its very sad the state we are living in now but if I dwell on it can it bring me down. My husbands boss is talking about laying off the sales man and have hubby do his job and the other guys job!! My first thought was, you have to do what you have to do....You work, or you dont work....
Its either him or the other guy..... Gulp....did I really think that? Yes, and I am ashamed. How terrible to be laid off before the holidays or at any other time! Its all so sad and scary. None of us are safe! My boss just lost her job last week after 20 some years faithful employment... Am I going to bitch anymore about working 17 hr days or not getting enough sleep!? Today I need to make a big huge gratitude list!!!!
I have a home, food and a job!!! Shame on me!

Wow Lani, sorry the economic fear is hitting your family now too. Was your boss in nursing management? Sounds crazy, we are in the most "secure" field out there! I hope all turns out well for you guys and your husband ... whether or not it means someone ELSE has to give up their job. It is a no-win situation, but don't feel bad about hoping that your husband gets to be the one to stay. There is nothing selfish about that, we need to SURVIVE you know.
Saying a prayer for you and your family.....

Business is really picking up at the hospital and they need people to work extra tonight....I should, but have a hair appt!!! Its all about me tonight as I need a good old root job!!! But thanks for the thoughts!!!
Hubby is surviving and still has a job just for today!!!
