15 Days since my last drink and now like usual my migraines are starting. the first time i quit it took a month. the second 3 weeks. now 2 weeks.

does this happen normally with quitting drinking? at first I thought it was a type of withdrawal symptom. which is possible bec I don't take in any type of caffeine in every day life.

just wondering.
i bought my AA book(the big book) the other day. plus the 12 Steps/12 Traditions from Amazon. Very excited for their arrival.

Thanks! :)

Hi Crisco!!

Sorry to hear you are getting headaches. Detoxing from the poisons alcohol builds up in our systems can take a lot longer than the initial detox. I can remember times after 5 year stints of drinking heavily, where my organs themselves seemed to "hurt" for months. My blood sugar was all screwed up for awhile too, which caused me a lot of headaches.

But whatever the cause of your headaches, I would see your doctor if they are really bad, and explain to him what you are going through, that you are an alcoholic in recovery, and that you need medical advise that will not put your sobriety in jeopardy. This is what I did with my doctor, and he has shared with me the joys of my recovery milestones, and has been very encouraging and "proud of my progress". He would never ever prescribe me anything that would interfere with my recovery, and he sure has helped me through a lot of pain and illnesses over the years.

Hope you are soon feeling better, and hope you enjoy your new books!!

Joni

Hi Kristi,

I know when I stopped drinking I had a really bad on-going headache for weeks. I used to get bad migraines, but I haven't had one since I stopped drinking!

I agree with Joni about checking it out with your doctor. I was totally honest with my doctor and she was so very supportive and helpful.

And, congrats on getting your new books. I wouldn't be without mine. Happy reading!

Take care,

Carol

Addictions can also mask things like allergies, etc. You just think you feel bad because you are hungover, don't realize you have an underlying issue. Once clean people sometimes discover health problems they didn't know they had. Or it can just be the getting clean process. Time will tell.

The withdrawal of alcohol also caused headaches for me......Can't remember how long it took but they subsided within a few weeks.

As for headache today, mine is sinus related. The weather here has cooled a lot and the onset of ragweed is a bitch! I use a Netie Pot, works wonders.

Hang in there, it'll get better.......rest, eat right, drink plenty of fluids.

(((hugs)))

I have to take 3 to 4 IBuprofens. my counselor had said that it is okay to do so because it's an anti inflammatory and isn't bad for you stomach either.

Too much Ibuprofen causes CONSTIPATION! So use it only when necessary!

My doc writes me a script for 800 mg, cheaper thru my insurance than over the counter.

We all do realize there is HUGE difference between a headache and migraine, correct? If not, Google ( or whatever ) it!

Hang in ther CJ, it'll get better.
