You are not alone. We've all been exactly where you are right now. Wanting to stop and couldn't, didn't know how.

A great place to start is AA. Here's the link for ST. Louis

I hope you'll give it a try.

Hello Brandon,

Coming here is a great start and it sounds as though you have a serious desire to quit drinking.

The next step for me was to walk into a meeting - and it actually took me a while looking through the posts here - and reading other peoples stories - to make that next step.

I have 30 days sober today.  It is not easy, but it is so rewarding.  Just last night I was in the grocery store and I wanted to buy some booze so bad - can't even tell you.  I was ready to rip the cap off and start chuggin' right there is Safeway.  How do you buy JUST orange juice??? LOL

Nice thing about face to face meetings - you get phone numbers.  Every time I got one, I would just put it in my purse - they started to pile up down there.  You know why they give you their phone number?  So you can call them when you want to drink.  You can talk to someone who understands, is not going to berate you, and will help you through the hard times.  They ARE EAGER for you to call.  They have been in the exact same spot and want to offer the same help they have received to someone else.  If you want to stop, it is going to be difficult - we all know that - we have all been there - and we ALL want to help.

Keep coming back here, we would love to hear how things are going.

Welcome, Brandon!  We are glad you are here.  I really can't add to what Doll and tlcate have said:  Please contact A.A. in your area, and get to a meeting today.  Like on this board, you will find people there who know what you're feeling, thinking, and experiencing, and they will share what they did to stop drinking and stay stopped.

Please keep posting here, and let us know how things are going for you.

Love,

BGG

Welcome to MIP, Brandon. I hope you come back even if tis simply to read & gain identification while you're learning about the illness of alcoholism. I read your post & identified with your fear, upset, despair & desire to change. Your words were honest & from your heart & I felt your humanity. Know that even though you may isolate yourself, you're not alone & there are people in meetings not far from you who care & will give you the support you need.

Like you, I found that I could not stop drinking by my own power. I am powerless over alcohol & so cannot take even that first drink. It's that first drink that will get me drunk everytime. Here in AA we know that so we work on ourselves spiritually to abstain from alcohol 1Day@aTime. This way it is possible & while I have been stopped I have been able to change my life, with so much help & become able to manage alot more.

There was humility & a willingness in your share & I hope you keep this with you. It is possible to change, Brandon & there is a good life after alcohol no matter how bad things are right now. A new life begins with a first step & your post was a reflection of that. It doesn't matter that you deleted it. You've asked for help & as long as you keep asking, you will receive.

Keep your honesty, keep an open mind & keep your willingness. I believe you can change too. Keep coming back, Daniella x
