Just checking in. Got caught up the past week in work projects, home projects, etc., and haven't been to a meeting since last Wednesday (where I took my 2 year cake). Most of you know my story about gradually stopping meetings well into double-digit sobriety, and then "the great fall." So, I'm going to a meeting tonight where I have a coffee commitment, and I am definitely looking forward to it. It is so very easy for me to say to myself: "Well, I'm not thinking about drinking, so what's the big deal about whether I make a meeting today? I have SO much other stuff to do. blah, blah, blah" Dangerous thinking for this alcoholic. I NEED the fellowship of A.A. to remind me of where I've been and where I NEVER want to return again. And, to have the opportunity to share my experience, strength and hope with others. God bless you all.
I make a meeting almost everyday, since 9/07, no less than 5 times a week anyway. I did the same thing, stopped going to meetings one at the time and relapsed. Finally figured out that I easily forget I'm an alcoholic and my disease wants me to believe I can someday drink normally. Gotta get in regular F2F to keep in constant reminder.
((hugs))

Just returned from the meeting, and some post-meeting fellowshipping with my A.A. compadres. Excellent meeting. Even saw a woman who got sober with me in 1986, and like me, was sober for many years before a relapse. She came back tonight and took a newcomer chip, and I was able to welcome her back, and share with her that it does get better.
Thanks for sharing BDD. Im so glad you recognized just where you were at and the need to get busy!!! I too get a feeling of all is fine.....thats when I know its not!!!

congrats BGG, that must feel good, and also being able to confort another of your original class mates proving that you're not alone in your journey. I'm glad to see that you've gotten beyond the continuous year thing and are looking at the big picture of just living sober and that all that matters is today.
